Hello, I had my completition thyroidectomy on Monday, but unfortunately had a hematoma after surgery so was taken back into theatre on Monday evening, bleeding stopped and an extra couple of clips placed on the arteries. In comparison to my lobectomy I’m exhausted, and as pictures show extremely bruised all the way down my neck and chest. just wondering if anyone has been through similar and how they found recovery? Any advice gratefully received. Thank you

I haven’t so I can’t offer advice, but I wanted to send you hugs and love. It sounds like you have really been in the wars - that photo looks like your neck has done 10 rounds with Mike Tyson. You are really brave and the worse is now over. Lots of love and luck for your recovery. Be nice to yourself - lots of treats - you really deserve it. xxxxxx 🤸🏿♀️
I've no expertise on thyroidectomy. I assume 'competition' should say something else and is a typing error. Has your doctor started you on levothyroxine to compensate for your thyroidectomy and if so how much? If you are on too little levothyroxine it could explain your extreem tiredness.
I think it was ‘completion’ as part had been done before. Easy to make a typo on here - like your ‘extreme’. I am always thankful for the edit button! The autocorrect in my phone also likes to join in on my posts, which can often lead to something quite bizarre! Lol! Good question about the Levo. 🤸🏿♀️
Thanks yes should have been completion. I’ve been put on 150 Levo was on 100 before. Hopefully it’s the anaesthetic and body repairing its self causing tiredness.
I had a neck that looked like yours after surgery. It has been 3.5 months and still sore. If you do not have to have Radioactive Iodine treatment you will be fine. The bruises go away in about a month. You are through with the worst.
No my operation was complicated too but no bruising and no other problems. Was your surgeon very experienced, older ,with plenty to thyroid operations?
Yes he was very experienced and well recommended, he did a great job with my lobectomy. Think I might have just been unfortunate.
Yes I see, I am sorry but you will get better soon it just takes time for the body to recover, good luck
It looks as though you were unfortunate, but now you are on the road to recovery. Dig in there, get plenty of treats- whatever you go for and it will fade and feel better with time. Hug hug and hugs.
Oh my gosh Girl7689 I think you were very unlucky, I send you lots of hugs and hope that it all heals up very soon. To be honest I was so horrified I felt that I had to write and say that a thyroidectomy should never end up like that and that others should not be scared and put off. You will, of course, feel better very soon. I suppose it is of no use telling your doc that you should be on T3 only for about three months after surgery. Be kind to yourself for a while, like others have said, lots of treats, and all will be well.
Mine looked this bad too. It gets better.
