Thank you miss grace for your response. This is the first page of the letter, the last paragraph concerns me should I take the statins which is the declined treatment she is referring to ?

Thanks 🙏

Personally, I would think twice about taking statins too. It is bad enough being on one treatment for the rest of your life - let alone adding another. Also, if your hypothyroidism is not being properly treated (and in my opinion it isn’t as you don’t seem at all optimum in the ranges, if they are the same as used by my GP’s lab), you will likely have high cholesterol as a result of your cr*ppy metabolism. Therefore, if they made more of an effort to treat you until your symptoms were alleviated, you may find the cholesterol reduces too. The letter acknowledges that the cholesterol is too high to be altered by diet - that admits there may be another underlying cause doesn’t it? So your hypothyroidism should clearly come into the equation!

I’m no medic, and I’m sure others on here will also comment to help. I can only go by what have learned on this site and my own experience. I see an endo privately, the first time I saw him he said to me ‘I’m not going to test your cholesterol yet, we know it will be filthy as you are very hypo. So let’s get the treatment going and test when you are feeling better.’ Then he asked me to be careful with diet in the meantime.

I’m so sorry if my reply to your previous post upset you. I really didn’t mean to. You are being badly treated and you are unwell. Don’t let them convince you it is your head. My GP tried to do the same. I sat there looking and feeling like sh*t after being bloodtested on 50mcg of Levo and my GP told me I was fine now as my TSH was coming down and I didn’t need to raise my dose. My TSH was still way above the normal range! Despite feeling tired beyond belief (and looking like a tramp as I hardly had the energy to brush the hair I had left or iron my clothes any more) I told him I was feeling worse and I wanted to see an endo. He refused (after all, I was treated wasn’t I? I must be a stupid crazy lady!) At that point, I hotfooted it (in a slow hypo manner!) to a private endo who has saved me. I am fortunate enough to be able to. I am sad and outraged for those who cannot.

We are not depressed, insane, hypochondriac doctor-botherers. We are hashis, we are hypos. We deserve some respect. We deserve to be treated to regain our quality of life. #fightforyourthyroid. 🤸🏿‍♀️

Ask her to show you the research that Statins do not help women. Also statins cause heart disease - type Statins Thyroid - into the Search Box above for the thousands of posts and helpful links. Sorry am on my phone and cannot do links. 😊

Statins also block the pathway for VitK2-MK7 - a vitamin that directs calcium away from the arteries and into the bones and teeth ! Also blocks the synthesis of VitD in the skin - from the suns rays. Low VitD is a root cause of many serious conditions ... The brain is made from around 25% cholesterol - all our hormones need cholesterol to be optimal - and so it goes on. Cholesterol does not cause heart disease - it is part of a healing process when there is inflammation in the arteries. Ask the specialist why they did not test Homocysteine - a better marker for heart issues and strokes - but of course no money spinning drug needs prescribing.

That’s my thought also. Thank you

Not to mention that statins cause irreversible muscle damage. My GP wants me to take statins for my high cholesterol for years now but I refuse and I let her know why but she disregards my concerns. I keep telling her that cholesterol doesn't cause heart attacks(I am sure she knows that). I hate it when doctors think that we are a bunch of idiots and know nothing. I keep telling her that instead of trying to push for drugs that I would like to find out why my cholesterol is high as I follow a health diet and exercise program and that it will be good for my liver to be tested but she won't have none of it, all she wants is for me to take drugs. I already told her that the only drug I will be taking is the Levo and only because I have no choice(she's coming around thou).

Thank you. I am fit & healthy apart from feeling the lows of the disease. No need for further details required on this forum are there. no high blood pressure, so I going ask for alternative options, the liver test would be good I’ll suggest it.

I gave up statins when I eventually realised (with the help of this forum) that they don't do much good anyway, as well as potential harmful side effects. ...Unless, according to Dr Kendrick, you are a man who has had a heart attack!

But I haven't told the doctors!

The only thing is they will probably realise eventually if I don't order any more prescriptions

These results from 5 months ago show you are under medicated

High cholesterol is linked to being hypothyroid

Clearly endocrinologist not read NHS advice on hypothyroidism- likely only a Diabetes specialist

nhs.uk/conditions/statins/c...

If you have an underactive thyroid (hypothyroidism), treatment may be delayed until this problem is treated. This is because having an underactive thyroid can lead to an increased cholesterol level, and treating hypothyroidism may cause your cholesterol level to decrease, without the need for statins. Statins are also more likely to cause muscle damage in people with an underactive thyroid.

Thank you.

I need to view my results to monitor change, not like the scatter approach I have. I am learning and shall put this in place as the good teachers on TUK have supported me for my better health ## living life ##
