If I am on 75mcg of levo a day and I want to switch to WP Thyroid. What would be the equivalent? Thanks
WP Thyroid: If I am on 75mcg of levo a day and I... - Thyroid UK
WP Thyroid
It is stated that WP thyroid - 1 grain - has an effect of 100mcg of levo. I am not medically qualified but I think to start at 1 gr would be o.k. If you began to get a fast pulse, decrease dose by 1/4. You can halve/quarter tablets and increase by 1/4 every two weeks always keeping a watch on pulse/symptoms.
Bjtyler,
1 grain of WP is the equivalent of 65mcg (38mcg T4 + 9mcg T3) but is bioactively equivalent to 100mcg T4. Therefore, the equivalent of 75mcg Levo would be three quarters of a grain.
If you post thyroid hormone blood test results complete with ranges (numbers in brackets), members will comment and give their experiences of making the switch.
If you haven't medicated T3 before and wish to just go ahead, ensure iron and cortisol levels are good in order to encourage your body's tolerance of the T3.
Retest six weeks after starting to ensure T3 does not go over range & expect TSH & T4 levels to possibly drop.
My body did not convert the synthetic T4 into T3. I consume more NDT than that which is stated in the manufacturere’s recommendations. I started lower but my FT4 was 0.6 and FT3 was 2.2. My TSH was 13. Not good for suppression for cancer. In addition to the original endo that would not give me NDT, ended up going through 3 more endos before finding someone that truly understood how to test and dose T3/NDT.
On NDT (such as WP) there is no need to wait 6 weeks to do blood work. You can retest the levels at 4 weeks from using it and changing the dose. I, and many others, get best results by splitting the dose (example: 6AM and 3 PM). For blood work to test the FT4 and FT3, we also like to consume the AM dose, wait 8 hours to do the BW, then consume the PM dose at the usual PM time.
Thank you. Does the NDT need to be taken away from food, like levo?
