I've got an underactive thyroid. Diagnosed about 22 years ago.
I'm not convinced that my treatment is right. I've had a very stressful 2018 and it seems to be continuing.
Could it be adrenal fatigue as well ? At the moment I have an almost permanent headache, which I've put down to stress.
I've been on anti depressants for years. I just want to run away to be honest!
The NHS treatment is not good, as I'm sure most of you know!
I dont know what to do with myself. I'm trying to eat more healthily and trying to help myself but feel like im failing miserably.
I was on 100mcg thyroxine 4 days a week and 125mcg on 3 days.
I ran out of the T3 I was also taking in November. Was taking about 8mcg twice a day. I've recently bought some NDT , I thought it was T3 but that doesn't seem to be the case. I'm taking 2 a day they're 60mg. Stopped taking the levothyroxine as it's got T4 in the new tablets.
I'm at the end of my tether, feel awful and would appreciate some advice. Thank you

NDT is the desiccated thyroid of either a cow or a pig, and therefore contains the hormones produced by those glands (there's disagreement whether or not the resulting tablets contain T1, T2, and Calcitonin, but they definitely contain T4 and T3). 1 grain (also referred to as 60 mcg) contains 38 mcg T4 and 9 mcg T3, so if you are taking 2 grains you are getting 76 mcg T4 and 18 mcg T3. So you are taking less T4 and more T3 when you were on a combination dose. However, if you assume that T3 approximates to 4 times the equivalent strength of T4, you are now taking the equivalent of 148 mcg T4 per day, compared with 132 mcg / 157 mcg. That makes a total of 1036 mcg per 7 days, and 999 mcg previously, so if you were under-medicated before, you'll possibly still be under-medicated now, and probably need a dose increase. But first you need to consider your blood test results on the combo meds, and your bloods on the NDT, in order to confirm this, together with any results you have for vitamins & minerals - post them here so others can comment. NHS treatment isn't poor / unsuitable for everyone, many many people do very well on Levothyroxine, they just don't speak out in forum such as this as they are off enjoying their happy health lives ..... If you wish to know what your cortisol & DHEA levels are like, you can have a 24 hr saliva cortisol test carried out privately, as many of us do.
Thank you for your reply. I do know about the tests but Unfortunately I cant afford to do them as I'm struggling financially. I will try to get a blood test at the doctors in a few weeks time and increase the dosage straightaway.
