Hi,

I highly recommend "Your thyroid and how to keep it healthy", by Dr Barry Peatfield.

It explains the whole endocrine system and how the thyroid is crucial for everything, plus some actions you can take to improve your situation. I've read several books on the thyroid, adrenals and metabolism in general, but this one I keep going back to.

You can also try "The Thyroid Patient's Manual" by Paul Robinson.

Good luck!

Try your library for the UK version of "Thyroid for Dummies "

I recently bought a copy of The Thyroid Patient's Manual by Paul Robinson (2018) I got mine from Amazon, not certain but may also now be available from Thyroid UK.

The Immune system recovery plan by Susan Blum

Good one for looking at diet connections to Hashimoto's.

I leant a lot from The Root Cause by Izabella Wentz. Very interesting read.

I was diagnosed with Hashis nearly two years ago and followed much advice from the book, this brilliant forum and a functional nutritionist. The main things I did were: I went 100% gluten free and slowly increased levothyroxine by 25 mcg every couple of months until my TSH was around 1. I then tested T4 and T3 and found that I was a poor converter. At the same time, I was working on getting my B12, D3, folate and ferritin optimal. I added in some T3 once my vitamins were optimal in May and have never felt better...just wish I’d found all this out 10 years ago. The whole process took a year of hard work, arguing with the GP, making lifestyle changes and sourcing a way of obtaining T3 etc etc but was well worth it. You CAN get there but it’s not a quick fix and takes time and effort. Good luck.

Hello Dave - there is one book written by a doctor who has hypothyroidism -

Your Thyroid and how to keep it Healthy - Dr Barry Durrant - Peatfield -

It is a relatively easy read and so informative on all things thyroid - and an excellent addition to the more specialised book you may need to buy on Hashimotos.

I can't help with that one as I'm with Graves Disease - good reading - welcome to the learning curve - we are all on it, somewhere or another.
