Face flushing!

Hi all!

Just wanted a bit of advice, started my levothyroxine 25mg a week ago now. Was fine for the first 4 days but for the last few days I have had a flushed face, nothing extreme and it calms down and then flares up again.

I note this is listed in the side effects but not sure how long I should leave it? Is it just my body getting used to the medication?

I only had a phone call appointment with the GP so couldn’t really ask too many questions when she prescribed it.

Many Thanks in advance ☺️

I doubt your doctor would know about symptoms/side-effects, anyway.

Seems to me that most of what they list as 'side-effects' of levo, are more to do with taking too much or two little. 25 mcg is a very small dose - stupidly small, actually, unless you are very old or have a heart condition - because it could make you worse, rather than better. But, the NHS now counts over 50 as 'very old'! Although I'm sure a lot of their doctors are a lot older than that!

Mention it to your doctor, by all means, see what he says. But, I think you're just going to have to sit it out and see if it gets better as your dose increases. Although, you could try asking for a different brand. It could be that the fillers don't suit you. When did your doctor say to go back for a retest?

Hello thank you for the advise! Have managed to get an appointment for Friday morning just to see what they say.

They told me to go back within 4-6 weeks for more blood tests. Might try to get them retested soon rather than later then!

Well, wait at least 4 weeks. You won't see much of a change before that, which will give them the opportunity to say, 'oh, the levo isn't working, it can't be your thyroid!' and stop it! :)
