TEVA - headache and nausea

Hi all,

I only started taking Levo yesterday, 50mg of TEVA.

Yesterday I had nausea for a lot of the day and was in bed asleep very early I was so tired.

Today I have the nausea again but also a headache and a fuzzy head.

I realise my body may just be adjusting but how long should I wait to see if I get past these effects?

Thanks x

Teva has caused adverse effects for many members. If there's no improvement in a few days (maybe give it a week) then I'd ask for a different brand and do a yellow card report for the Teva.

I don't think Levothyroxine should make you feel nauseous but TEVA can be problematic for some people. It was for me.

Thanks. I’m going to bear with it for a few days, it might just be me. The strange thing is this afternoon / evening I’m really hot. I’m usually cold so this is new. No heating on and it’s freezing outside 🙁

Whether you decide to stay with TEVA or not, do get your blood checked in 6 weeks and adjust dose if needed. Also, stick to one brand of levothyroxine and don't keep swapping or mixing different types. That way you will know if one causes problems.

Levothyroxine has a long half life so to get the dose you need you can alternate doses, so for example, if you need 125mcg you can take 100 day 1 and then 150 day 2 so that it averages out to 125mcg. I take 50mcg tablets so that I can average out my dose. The other way is to buy a pill splitter. That way you won't need to swap brands to get the right dose.

Thanks, I’ll remember this x

The doses are in micrograms (mcg), not milligrams (mg). :-(

This might help?

I was put on 25 of Teva as doctor FINALLY agreed I had hypothyroid (22 years it took, thanks to this site and having private tests to prove it was not 'depression and my age).

I took it one day, got nausea and digestive aches, as if upset tummy on its way, then woke with racing heartbeat the following early morning. So didn't take a second. Then decided to try again after a day off it - same thing happened, except this time I got worse digestive discomfort and bloating, and v.loose poo. So stopped it and read up more. Decided to stop all gluten and all soya and all raw kale (been mainstay of last 3 years daily diet) - and within days I felt SO much better! Did another private blood test later - thyroid function getting better. Make sure I have Vit B and D and magnesium and the like, as recommended on healthy thyroid sites (see Dr.Bergman on YouTube on thyroid - he's changed my life/health immeasurably!!, and many others on here say so too). Even coming off anti-depressants, as change in diet has sent the high anxiety/depression symptoms packing - after 22 years! Good luck in your journey, whichever route works for you in the end.

Thanks dinahnow,

Today I’m not as nauseous so I’m hoping it was just my body adjusting but I’ll definitely take a look at that on YouTube x
