Ketolady,

Welcome to our forum.

Possible adrenal issues caused by low thyroid hormone can disrupt blood sugar levels and taking Levothyroxine usually levels everything out.

However, I have heard of Levothyroxine raising blood sugar levels in diabetic patients. Maybe this is happening to all of us (to a small degree) but we don’t realise as are not monitoring our blood glucose levels daily ? .

If you are still in the early days of switching to a ketogenic diet, your body may be still in gluconeogenesis. This is when you reduce carb levels and your adrenal glands will up cortisol levels to allow fats & protein to convert into sugar. This may initially encourage blood sugar issues before your body adapts and moves into ketosis, when it stops burning proteins, and starts burning fat for energy.

Cortisol levels follow a circadian rhythm that are supposed to be highest in the morning.

Thank you I’m going to keep closer eye on it and maybe chat to the doctor

I too am doing Keto and have not noticed this. I alway take my levothyroxine first thing in morning. I test my ketones with a blood meter. I have never been knocked out of Keto by my medication but was by a detoxe supplement. I couldn’t figure out what was doing it at first. I thought it was stress or getting enough sleep because I was spot on with my diet. It wasn’t until I looked at the label of the detox I was doing that I discovered sugar as about the fifth ingredient. I was taking this 4 times a day. After I stopped I stayed in Keto. I love it and when in have more energy and mood is better.

I have been doing it about 6 months. When I first started I used the urine strips but they don’t work after you have been doing it a while because they are in your blood and your not peeing them out. I love my Keto meter. I have Keto mojo and it tests for ketones. I have dropped about 35 pounds. Because of my under active thyroid and Hashimoto’s it is next to impossible for me to lose much weight at all until doing Keto. When My ketones are in range, I feel energy and in a good mood. Because of my throid issues, I haven’t felt this good in years. I have been reading a lot about the Keto diet or lifestyle and it can be very helpful for many conditions especially with blood sugar levels. Before starting my doctor told me I was prediabetic. My doctor told me my levels now are perfect. I was glad to hear and I started really getting into Keto because of this.

Thank you .i started it to lose weight high blood pressure and with hope it would help my thyroid I have lost 16 lb which been doing it since late October not been as easy as I thought it would but feel better for no grains and little carbs .i was trying the 5/25/70 found it to hard to get round the 5% carbs then started reading it wasen5 to good to go to low on carbs for a thyroid as your thyroid need them so changed. To 12% /25 / 63 what split are you doing .

Good to hear someone else’s progress with the keto and thyroid issues thanks

I try to stay under 20 carbs. I don’t really keep track but stay away from any added sugar by reading ingredients. I also have no grains. Nothing white, white flour, rice, and sugar. The only flours I can use are coconut and almond no rice flour. Big part of my diet are healthy fats. I try to get 75% unrefined healthy fats. No starchy veggies but often substitute lettuce for bread. I eat moderate protein protein. I find the higher fat keeps me full and often forget about eating. Plus the newest cutting edge studies have found high fat low card eating is gaining approval with many doctors today. The studies from the low fat eighties have been disproven and actually damaging to our health. Our Brain actually needs fat and our bodies to absorb vitamins. It has been so ingrained in most people that fat is bad . However the processed fats are extremely bad like vegetable oils that a lot of fast food and processed food are made with. Healthy fats like 🥑 are very good for us. I m sure you know this. I wish my husband did. He thinks there is nothing wrong with pasta. For me there is any kind of grains cause inflammation and digestive issues.

I love grass fed butter blended in my coffee. I personally can’t have dairy so it replaces my latte.
