Email address

Why is it such a pain to update my email address on this site. It should be simple. I have messaged someone and now realise I have an old email address and will not be notified.

It seems quite straightforward: click on avatar, then on settings, then scroll down to change email address. Is that not working for you?

Other members will not have access to your email address.

Correspondence with others within Health Unlocked is done via private messages. If you click on "chat" at the top of your screen (or bottom of screen on a phone app), your private messages will appear.

Yes I am aware of that but if I receive a message I will not be notified through my email as I have changed my address

You are notified through “chat” at the top of the page. Your email address has nothing to do with Health Unlock’s private messages.

Years ago, when the internet was young, when you signed up for something you got a username and password, and your email address was secondary. the some bright spark decided that an email address was a good way to identify a person and made that the primary identifier on an account - so I now have 6 Microsoft IDs (as I used to have different email addresses for different newsletters), two Adobe IDs and so on. It was always a stupid idea and still is. I suspect it is supposed to help prevent ID/account theft. Often it is easier to close an account and start a new one than change the email address.
