Vit D Supplements?

I wonder if anyone can recommend a quality Vit D Supplement. I am Hypo and my Endo recommended I take 2000 mg a day...but didn't suggest one? There are too many on the market to chose a reputable one. Thank you so much in advance

If you have Hashi's then BetterYou oral spray.

If you don't have Hashi's then a softgel, I particularly like Doctor's Best - only 2 ingredients: D3 and extra virgin olive oil to aid absorption, no nasties, very small, easy to take.

What is your D3 level, 2000iu daily is more a winter maintenance dose for someon who has a good enough level, you may need more.

Did he mention D3's very important cofactors - magnesium and Vit K2-MK7 and to keep D3 four hours away from thyroid meds?

D3 aids absorption of calcium from food and K2-MK7 directs the calcium to bones and teeth where it is needed and away from arteries and soft tissues where it can be deposited and cause problems such as hardening of the arteries, kidney stones, etc.

D3 and K2 are fat soluble so should be taken with the fattiest meal of the day, D3 four hours away from thyroid meds.

Magnesium helps D3 to work. We need Magnesium so that the body utilises D3, it's required to convert Vit D into it's active form. So it's important we ensure we take magnesium when supplementing with D3.

Magnesium comes in different forms, check to see which would suit you best and as it's calming it's best taken in the evening, four hours away from thyroid meds

Check out the other cofactors too.

Wow, this great info (that my doctor never told me of course!). Didn't know that it aids absorption of calcium - therefore the 4 hr interval.

I have Vitamin D deficiency and after research opted for Nu Nutrition 3000 IU capsules so I could dosage with 1-2 capsules as needed. But I felt some really weird symptoms after increasing dosage to 2 capsules. So this may be due to taking it only 2 hrs after meds?

I'll certainly look up BetterYou and K2. Thanks!

Thank you very much indeed for your in-depth reply to my question. No, I had no idea that you should take the Vit D3 supplements 4 hours after taking my Levothyroxine. Went to see a private Endo but nothing like the above was ever mentioned. So, THANK YOU.

As you have Hashimoto's suggest you get the Better You vitamin D mouth spray

Comes in 1000iu spray or 3000iu spray options

How low was your vitamin D?

This spray being absorbed in mouth probably doesn't need to be four hours away from Levo, but I would leave at least 2 hours

Don't add vitamin K2 if you are on any blood thinning medication including aspirin

I use BetterYou spray. I used to use the basic version but I’ve just discovered that they do a version with K2 so I’m using that at the moment.

I’m using the BetterYou D3 plus K2 spray. It has a present gentle mint flavour and having the two together is handy. Only have to take one supplement but get the benefit of two!

Ask your doctor for vit D (caliceferol) 3,000 iu

Thats what i have

Also to maximize absorption take it with a calcium tablet otherwise its useless

Also Get a magnesium oil spray (dont get the gel) from better you company (about £10)

Dose is dependent on need, based on current level, advising to take 3000iu isn't right for everyone.

No need to take calcium unless tested and found to be deficient. Taking D3 aids absorption of calcium from food so taking extra calcium isn't a good idea.

Are you a qualified Gp

No I'm not, nor do I give silly advice like telling people to take calcium without testing and finding out if they are deficient and need it.

Are you a qualified GP?

I also didnt advise i said to ask GP they will always know whats best

& you are wrong about calcium and vit D working together

No, you didn't say that, you actually said

"Also to maximize absorption take it with a calcium tablet otherwise its useless"

**

I never said that. I said test calcium before supplementing because "taking D3 aids absorption from food so taking calcium isn't a good idea" (unless tested and found to be deficient of course)

Copy and past of your previous post:

“GP they will always know what’s best” (sic). I think that one can safely assume from reading posts on this forum that this is not the case!
