WHAT CAN I DO NEXT ABOUT A WAY FORWARD?

I have at last consulted both my GP and my Practice Nurse regarding IRON OVERLOAD. I am suffering from brain fog right now so need to find a new way forward regarding this! I think I must be terribly stupid as both these ladies have told me that they will re-test my bloods in three weeks to attain euthyroid balance for me. I have been assured that this is the right thing to day. One of my "tutors" told me a wee while ago that I must get an updated blood test ASAP re Haematology. Sometimes your body "tells you to hear it" so what now? Symptoms are the same but worse. These ladies want to sit back and relax or something!

If it was not for my two tutors and my colleagues here I would be "all over the place"!

I am terribly tired so any help will (as ever) be gratefully received. I am very fond of these ladies as I worked beside them for a short period.

Anyhow, take care everyone - Victoria99 (now 100)!

victoria99,

To be honest a ferritin reading of 394.0 ug/L in possible Haemochromotosis terms is not high. Many get up in the thousands ! ! ..

Elevated ferritin can be a marker for inflammation. Have you got elevated thyroid antibodies ?

Your brain fog is more likely to be attributed to low thyroid hormone or cortisol issues. If you post the thyroid hormone test results when you receive them, complete with ranges (numbers on brackets) members will comment.

Hello again Radd - Thanks for replying to my question. The ferritin reading of 394.O ug/L was found by myself as part of an online test on 24th August 2018. There has been no update on this as yet. My tutor here said I must get a quick test and update on this but this has not been done as yet. My GP will wait for a further three weeks until my current blood tests are returned from the NHS before anything action is taken on my behalf by my GP. I think I might just get another online test to discover my up-to-date status. I think my age of 75 might be one reason that I should go ahead with this. My brain fog has been in place with inter alia other symptoms so you are totally correct here. Like some of my more informed colleagues here (like yourself and my two tutors) I have a great load to learn. As you well know iron overload does not also include one's self but also family members, e.g. my son and my brother's daughter. I am a bit "under the weather" right now lady but I think that someone who has an overload in iron as inherited from both his/her parents. Sorry for all this rambling. Hope you are well right now. Take care. Victoria (now 100!). Best wishes.
