Hi all,
Lots of questions swimming round in my head with new diagnosis of overactive. Been placed on 40mg of propranolol on a day, when did it start working or having any effect for you?
Many thanks

I take it for a rapid heartbeat due to hypothyroidism. I started taking 10mg in morning and bedtime and it was pretty instant - I would say rapid heart rate decreased 8-10 hours after first pill and heart rate wasn't as spiky within 48 hours and back to normal levels after about four days.
You need to tell us a bit more if you need help generally with your diagnosis. Post the blood tests, from which the diagnosis was made and some background information.
Unfortunately I don’t have the blood test results as yet. I was told by the gp receptionist by thyroids levels were high but she could disclose the results as she isn’t medical. The gp prescribed propranolol over the phone. Due to see gp again next week for full assessment. Will post when I know them.
That is such nonsense - the fact of her telling you your results were high is far more "medical" than simply reading the numbers to you with no interpretation or judgment. In the early days of patients being given improved access to their records, I had a similar conversation with a receptionist: "I'm not medically qualified to tell you what they are" ...... I explained that she needed a medical degree and licence to practise, in order to diagnose and treat me, but she most certainly did not need any qualification to read out the numbers on the screen, only a certain degree of literacy and good eyesight. As we now have even more legislation strengthening our rights, which one would think should clarify very clearly for practice staff exactly what they are, it is very depressing that some are still so uninformed as to believe nonsensical things like that.
