Hello again, I’m having a bad day, I’m wondering if anybody knows can I take propranolol with Levothyroxine?

Levothyroxine 25mg / propranolol?
Hello again,
Yes I take Levothyroxine and Propranolol. Initially I had a high dose of the beta blocker but it didn’t agree with me (felt exhausted), so now just take 10mg propranolol as needed (ie not every day- just if anxious or have palpitations). You are not alone in feeling this way. Remember the anxiety will pass. It takes time for medication to work. My advice is to start at a low dose and work up until you feel better. 👍😊
You are quickly becoming my new best friend, 🥴, It is so nice to have someone to talk to about all this, someone that understands
You cannot take it "with" Levo, but you can take them separately. Propranolol has certain antithyroid effects so it is important that you keep a couple of hours between them.
It was initially the only way I could take high enough dose of Levothyroxine, to take propranolol as well.
It can help reduce anxiety and that helps adrenals recover
Either taking as and when you need it, or as small doses 2 or 3 times per day
But if taking regularly, it's essential when you eventually want to ween back off, it must be done very very slowly
How much Levothyroxine have you been started on?
How long on current dose?
Have you had vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12 levels tested?
I was on 50mg of Levothyroxine taken for 2 weeks, but found it far to strong, started on 25mg today, don’t take anything else, hopefully it will help calm me a bit, also haven’t slept more than a couple of hours a night, feeling awful at the moment,
First thing is, do you have any actual blood test results? if not will need to get hold of copies. You are legally entitled to printed copies of your blood test results and ranges.
UK GP practices are supposed to offer online access for blood test results. Ring and ask if this is available and apply to do so if possible, if it is you may need "enhanced access" to see blood results.
In reality many GP surgeries do not have blood test results online yet
Alternatively ring receptionist and request printed copies of results. Allow couple of days and then go and pick up.
For full Thyroid evaluation you need TSH, FT4 and FT3 plus both TPO and TG thyroid antibodies tested. Also important to test vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12
Low vitamin levels are extremely common, especially if Thyroid antibodies are raised Or if very hypothyroid
Ask GP to test vitamin levels next week, and thyroid antibodies, if not been done
Come back with new post once you get results and ranges
The dosing of thyroid hormones is usually in micrograms (mcg) - not milligrams (mg).
The document linked below says it all, I hope:
