I’m currently awaiting IVF in January, at my follow up appointment my fertility consultant mentioned about my tsh being low. I was due my annual cholesterol test due to having hyperlipidema, therefore I asked my GP if they could test my thyroid as I’ve been having severe fatigue and other symptoms. My results came back this week as suppressed TSH <0.01 T3 5.4 pmol/l T4 15.6 pmol/l. My GP said because I’m so symptomatic that they be prescribed me 50mcg of levothyroxine. I’ve never been on this before. However, after doing a bit of research my bloods show I’m more on the side of hyperthyroidism. Therefore I really can’t understand why they have put me on levothyroxine. I really don’t want to start taking the medication and have asked for appointment to speak to a gp tomorrow. Has anyone got any advice and what to ask. I’m also worried with regards to it effecting my hormone levels for ivf. Xxx

Suppressed TSH <0.01 and I’ve been prescribed 50mcg of levothyroxine. Confused??
Do you have the reference ranges for your results? We need to know what they are to have a hope of understanding them.
For example, if the T4 range was 7 - 14 then your level is high. If the T4 range was 12 - 22 then your level is in the lower half of the range. It makes a lot of difference.
Another relevant factor is whether or not your results are for Free T4 or Total T4, and Free T3 or Total T3.
Do you know if you have positive antibodies? And have you had levels tested for the basic nutrients i.e. vitamin B12, folate, ferritin, iron, and vitamin D?
I wonder if your thyroid levels are because of any prep you might be doing for the IVF. Just a thought.
I’m doing ivf and my TSH was 0.05 (range 0.4-6) and they are making me reduce my thyroxine to try and get the TSH to 1 before I’m allowed to transfer my last embryos, so I’m surprised you are being put on levo?
