Has anyone else had their referral to an endocrinologist rejected?
My GP has been very supportive. He’s doing his best to help me. My antibodies are over 1,000, despite being Strictly gluten free and taking selenium.
I am trialing T3 and wanted to continue with it to see if this helped, which is why I assume I’ve been rejected. My blood tests show I need a little, as confirmed by knowledgeable folk on here.
The funny thing is that the endo who rejected me from Derriford (Plymouth) is on Thyroid UK’s list of T3 friendly endos. I expect he’d have welcomed me with open arms as a private patient.
I know Endos are generally a waste of time, being diabetes specialists etc, but I felt it could have been a step towards better health.

I think that there have been increased levels of referrals to Endocrinologists as I believe recent Guidelines state that only Consultants can prescribe/discuss T3. It is possible they are overwhelmed and not coping - and so people in your situation are left to struggle and having requests for appointments rejected. You could write to him - if there is an e-mail address on his website - and explain your situation and of course your lack of care. Also mention you realise you could see him privately for a different outcome - but funds do not allow at present. Also ask why your request was rejected. I always feel better when I take things on and try to deal with them Wishing you the very best ...
My GP is ringing tomorrow, so I’ll ask for the reason and follow it up.
My GP advised me to write an email prior to the appointment (which I did), explaining my symptoms etc. He gave me the name and email of a top person in the Endo department, although I guess the ‘rejector’ may not have seen the email.
I was just told over the phone that I’d been rejected, so don’t have his nhs email to follow it up, but I’ll ask my GP, I’m sure he’ll get it me if he can.
I feel so lucky to have a good gp compared to some I read about on here, but it feels that where my luck ends!
Look at the website of Derriford Hospital and then find the Consultant you were due to see. As he also works privately you may well be directed to his website with his e-mail address. Happy to help if you PM his name
I have read, that any referral to NHS consultants (not only Endocrinologists) are sent to some sort of “clearing house” so your referral may have never got as far as the hospital. I understand that they are given a set of criteria for referrals and so if those criteria do not apply, you don’t get an appointment.
Hi I was refused a referral to an endocrinologist at Marsden Hospital too only couple of weeks ago and my GP called me to say he couldnt understand why I had been rejected - so not an isolated thing is it.
