I was just wondering if any has treatment for very dry hair. I am on thyroxine 125 and was diagnosed with hypothyroidism 12 years ago. But recently my hair dresser has noticed a big difference with my hair.
thank you

Hi! Up your oily fish. External serums etc are ok but can create build-up which is another problem. I worry about those hair, skin and nails pills with biotin, they contain B12 which is known to cause acne in some people. Go down the food root, regular trips to the hairdresser to keep in good condition even though it is dry. Are you on enough thyro, do you need a blood test? My hair always goes dry when I need upping! Good luck!
I've had the same issue going on for the last few years...my hair stylist uses a tea tree scalp treatment and leaves it on for twenty minutes or so before washing it off and it does help for me. Have you noticed that you're losing clumps of hair? I've been dealing with that as well. Thinking of you!
I used to have greasy hair and now my hair and scalp are very dry.
I cannot use regular shampoos at all no matter how "gentle" they are supposed to be. For my scalp itching and split ends I use this:
Beat one egg and add coconut oil/smashed avocado/olive oil into it. Then massage this mixture to your scalp and hair, leaving it there under a towel while you do your chores (or even sleep: be sure to have a plastic cap then!).
If you are not going anywhere, just wash the mixture out and let dry naturally. If you need to be "in style", you must be careful to wash the oil off!
If you don´t want to use a regular shampoo, you can try baking soda (dilute some pure soda into water and wash your hair with this.)
As it was pointed out here earlier, this is just an external remedy. Those ingredients could do your hair good if taken internally as well. But I am sure you already know this.
I find it frustrating to "wait" until the good things I eat reach my poor hair follicles! The hair is unlucky as it gets its nutrients last. Well, when the most important parts of our body are satisfied, maybe then our hair gets its share. It is a survival game!
I too have dry hair and i am prone to scaly patches on my scalp. The night before i shampoo i massage in coconut oil especially on the dry ends. I buy the cheap oil from the indian shop. If it is set i put it in the airing cupboard and decant some into a clean pot. My hair is washed with no residue. If in doubt i wash it twice.
Coconut oil...massage it in...wrap your head in cling film...leave for at least an hour. It washes out very easily so you still need only one shampoo (not like olive oil which is a nightmare to get rid of). Not sure of your age? Menopause messes with your hair big time. Also good to up the quality of your hair products in general.
I have regular (every 4 months) Keratin blow drys and it has massively improved my hair. It still falls out a bit but it is not dry and frizzy any more.
Avocado oil, eg the type you get at Sainsburys, is really good for deep conditioning. Leave it on under a shower cap for a couple of hours for best results. A bit smelly going on but washes out easily with no residual smell. Olive oil also supposed to be good.
My hair really changed when I entered menopause. It got courser and dryer. I do live on the edge of a desert, so thought it was the dry air. 10% humidity. Now I’m pretty sure it’s my hypothyroid. I’ve tried everything I can think of. Now, I use Sebastian Penetrait. Sebastian makes a whole line hair products. Have been using it for 3 yrs. now. It’s amazing. I now have hair instead of broken straw. If you look around on line, you’ll find it for 1/2 the reg. Price.
