Pain from rotator cuffs.

Iv`e been having problems with both shoulders, with pain, clicking noises & stiffness. I know this is the result of rotator cuff problems due most likely low thyroid. Is there a way to ease this without bothering my gp yet again?

Getting thyroid and vitamin levels correct will improve symptoms

How much Levothyroxine are you taking

Can you add most recent results and ranges for TSH, FT3 and FT4, plus have you also had thyroid antibodies tested

Also helpful if had vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12 tested. Add results and ranges if you have them

If you have raised Thyroid antibodies this is autoimmune thyroid disease also called Hashimoto's. Often linked to gut issues and low vitamins

Rotator cuff problems aren't the same as frozen shoulder x

I feel your pain, I injured my shoulder about 8 wks ago and it's just getting worse. I'm being referred to the musculoskeletal department but I think it's partly due to Hashimitos too as I have problems on and off with both shoulders, elbows and wrists. When my levels were optimal things were much better so I think really that's the only way to get rid of these types of problems, not easy I know x

Are you on T4 thyroid meds . What are your FT-4 and FT3 ,TSH lab results ? I found that when my FT4 goes high my shoulder starts hurting me . It's one of my signs for me that I need to lower my T4 . It works for me all the time . I journal my symptoms especially with each dose change . And it's very telling . Symptoms are Cellular results .

My T4 is very low ut it will be as I have 30mgs T3 added to me Levo,, I feel better with T3 over range but with me having TSH of 0.004 and it never shifting at all I even wonder if may be pituitary as I had serious car accident years ago and was unconscious for a day,, I had bruising on front local part so possible,, I also passed out on a pike of rubble in Goa and was in hospital there for 4 days they to want to give me more meds, threatening AF.. I have 2 gene faults Dio2 1 parent and a Dio1 fault but to sure what that one even means I probably have many more as well i know off and I had sub thyroidectomy and was left Hypo since not long after op when in late teens and wasnt treated till i was 40 and not treated very well as was left on 50mgs for ten years and TSH was over 5 at times so no wonder i felt crap.. I upped it myself in end I didnt understand the bloods then but they kept saying your thyroid is fine ,, it obviously wasnt x

when i had private bloods done i had Reverse t3 and the dr on the report on bloods said i really wasnt converting very well but he doubted i would find anyone to treat it !

Higher T-4 one needs can possibly raise RT-3 . If you can get some Dr on board to help you sort out your T3 and T4 dose would be very helpful . You might want to look for Holistic or Naturopath Dr that will work with you .

I am waiting to see if the endo I have chosen will see me or not , so hopefully he will then I can get sorted properly as the Endo i am with now does not listen to me and stuck on doing anything else, ! So i have moved on to get one who will listen :_ been treated badly too long and not prepared to stay ill because of Arrogant Drs !

But they aren't the same thing..you said hairyfairy must mean frozen shoulder? I know being under treated can contribute to shoulder problems, I suffer myself, but I was just saying that a frozen shoulder is different to rotator cuff injury.

ive just bought magnesium malate think that one is ok, bloods TSH 0.004 been like that ages now and before they added T3.. My Endocrinologist still prescribed me 20mgs T3 and even added another 10mgs..

o on T3 30 mg &s 100mcg levo but really feel when T3 runs out that T4 does not back me up at all I but ends said i was imagining it of course t4 would back me up, I dont know how as for 14 years felt really ill since I started horrid drug. T4 lower end of range 11 bottom being 9 range 18 i think and T3 was 4.9 top of the range but my SHGB had gone down 10 to 62 which My Gphad tested

In fact The Endo never actually di much at all he never took BP no bloods nothing really Gp took it she did reflexes ,

Endo nothing part for look at his TSH T4 T3 chart saying they all look good,, jesus there were ones with TSH 3.8 . 4.7 Tsh suppressed for ages as needed it that way to stay awake so how the hell did they look all right.. he prescribes but as work with me nope he was useless on that one, but at least i got to try T3 and it did improve my life to what it had been for years.....

My GP when i had been a few times for things she said they were o=all endocrine and let him deal with it as i was seeing him again soon that she would copy my endo in on it with all my symptoms\

All I got wasushered me out after 5 mins with out being able to talk about symptoms I went in toilet on way out and was in tears for ages in there I thought he was listening to me but he never even read what my gp copied him in with,, so went back to gp and she wasnt happy he never read what she had sent him and asked me if i wanted second opinion I said yes, she said go and research a good one and make sure he prescribes what you need, she said you are going to be a difficult one to treat so you need someone who will listen she appoligised she couldnt prescribe it for me as what evet had to be initiated with an Endo, she said search well as I dont want you to drive a hundred miles to be let down again you have surffered long enough .. At last found a gp who listens :) x

Why is magnesium citrate 'the bad one'?

NatChap profile image

What's wrong with magnesium citrate?

It's a good one to take if you suffer with constipation like many of us do x

It is important to be very aware of the possibility of toxicity from comfrey.

helvella profile image
helvellaAdministratorThyroid UK

But you were recommending comfrey without qualifying what form. You didn't say "homoeopathic comfrey". From that someone might go and grab some from their garden.

Even a cursory search will find Wiki and this statement:

In 2001, the United States Food and Drug Administration issued a ban of comfrey products marketed for internal use, and a warning label for those intended for external use.[7][8] Comfrey should not be used during pregnancy and lactation, in infants, and in people with liver, kidney, or vascular diseases.[4][9]

You could disagree with the article but it is very likely that the FDA really did issue a ban.

You said: you also need comfrey /symphytum both taken as a tincture

It is usual to take tinctures orally. This is not universal and depends on various other factors but a brief search will often find that it is assumed that they are going to be taken orally. Some examples below more or less randomly selected from a search.

THIS:

Tinctures - What are they and how do you use them?

What is a tincture you may ask... Tinctures are liquid extracts made from herbs that you take orally (by mouth). They are usually extracted in alcohol (known here on our website as "regular"), but they can also be extracted in vegetable glycerine or apple cider vinegar (non-alcohol). Tinctures are easy and convenient to use. Tinctures are also easier to give to children as they have to take only small amounts (see Children's Dosage Guide for suggestions). Because they are taken directly under the tongue, they enter the bloodstream much more directly than by any other means. This means that the action in the body is usually quicker.

AND:

How to take a Herbal Tincture or Fluid Extract

Tinctures or Fluid Extracts are a liquid herbal preparation in Alcohol. On each bottle it states the percentage of alcohol present, it also states the strength of the Tincture. 1: 3 means 1 part herb to 3 parts liquid. Herbal Extracts are often stronger and normally made to a 1:1 ratio.

The Tincture or Fluid Extract can be taken directly by adding the correct recommended amount to filtered water. However some people find the bitter taste of herbs in this form to be too strong, so the Tincture or Fluid Extract can be added to fruit juice to sweeten.

However in some cases it is preferable to evaporate the alcohol before taking the Tincture or Fluid Extract. This is advised with babies, children, the elderly, and if someone is sensitive to alcohol or recovering from alcohol addiction. This is very easy to do.

AND:

How to Take a Tincture

Tinctures are a type of extract used to alleviate minor illnesses and provide health benefits. These extracts are prepared by soaking herbs in alcohol or other solvents. In most cases, you will take a tincture by mouth under the tongue. That said, there are some other ways to use tinctures, including topical applications and gargling. Be warned that the taste of tinctures can be very strong. If you’re struggling to take a tincture, try diluting it.

I don't think it at all unexpected that someone reading your response would almost immediately think of taking it by mouth.

Googled it and found a paragraph on magnesium citrate

Intestine: Citrate & Lactate have great affinity for the bowel

Doesn't say it's bad?

It does however say to stop taking lots of other things including iron supplements, without which I'd be deficient so I think I'll take it all with a pinch if salt anyway 😉
