Blood tests

Hi everyone I recently posted regarding my underactive thyroid and my dosage of levothyroxine 75mcg and how generally unwell I feel most of the time. Some people replied to post and advised that I get my vitamin. Levels checked I've been to see the doctor today and reluctantly agreed to this and has advised that I may never feel better 😐 or well again and she has no answers for me I also asked for a print out of my previous blood test results and was told that there's no point let's not play a guessing game until next bloods are done I have an appt on wed and I have read on here (I've read that many posts) it's better not to take levothyroxine before going for my bloods so should I take them as usual or not ? I'm new here and I'm amazed that so many people are struggling with thyroid issues and I really do appreciate any advice that anyone can offer me 😊 Tia

Your doctor's not very knowledgeable, is she. 75 mcg is only a small dose, you're probably under-medicated. And, it would seem, she didn't even know she was breaking the law by refusing to give you your blood test results!

To get the best out of your blood test, you need to have the blood drawn as early in the morning as possible - at least before 9 am - and fast over-night. Don't take your levo before the test, leave a 24 hour gap between your last dose and the blood draw. That way, you will get the highest TSH, and the most accurate FT4 - if she even tests the FT4! This is a patient-to-patient tip, which most doctors don't know about - and don't need to know! So, keep it to yourself. :)

Hi greygoose,

I did ask what my t3 and T4 levels were the last blood test think that's why I was fobbed off but I will make sure I get a print out of my results after bloods are done. Not only is it a struggle with thyroid issues and how I feel it's an issues with the doctors not having a clue thank you for advising about levothyroxine before my bloods it's much appreciated 😊
