Hi Liz, Sometimes it takes a long while to undo the damage while you were becoming hypo. Have you been treated for a while. You may need to add T3 to your levo (T4). T4 is not a magic pill, well, nothing is but when your body is used to receiving T4,T3,T2,T1 and calcitonin I personally think it is asking a lot. If you have Hashimoto's you have an autoimmune disease and a T4 pill is not going to cure that. Have you tried other factors like supplements, vitamins, going gluten free, adding digestive enzymes or betaine HCL to meals? This takes management plus your adrenal glands have been trying to support your low thyroid which uses up cortisol. Low cortisol makes you very tired.
You can find answers at sites like Stop the Thyroid Madness. stopthethyroidmadness.com/r...
Can you post your most recent resultsfor you to comment on? Please remember to add the ranges as well as without them we should just be guessing.
Also have you any recent tests of Vit D, B12, folate and ferritin? They help the Thyroid to work better but they need to be optimal, not just in range but as we can suffer from low levels often that can be the problem. Many of us have to take supplements to keep functioning well but many doctors aren't aware of this being important.
This forum is run by Thyroid Uk so well worth looking at their site as lots of info on correct way to take medication etc.
Many doctors thing if we take a tablet then it's job done but it's not that straight forward. We often have to make little adjustments to get things working better but these can often take time as nothing works quickly in the Thyroid world but I'm sure we can help.
It's time you had a Full Thyroid Function Test. If GP wont do all, you can get them privately through one of our three Private Labs who do home pin-prick tests.
If you decide to do this make sure you are well-hydrated a couple of days before blood draw - that you draw blood at the earliest, fasting (you can drink water) and allow 24 hours gap between last dose and test and take afterwards.
You need TSH, T4, T3, Free T4, Free T3 and thyroid antiboies.

Your doctor should check B12, Vit D, iron, ferritin and folate.
Post your results with the ranges and members will respond. Two links which I think are helpful for us, the patients:-
I was here 2 years ago, even diagnosed with hypersonia by a London hospital and advised to take an amphetamin type drug with side effects. Gp was happy with extra medication but I was not! Had a blue horizon blood test to find vitamins d, b12, b6 etc were in range but low. By boosting all of these and keeping them high I feel better than I have in years.........not always a thyroid problem but we automatically assume it is.
Don’t underestimate the power of these vitamins...good luck
Totally agree - it has taken a very long time to get myself sorted - 2 years. Radiation dessimated my Thyroid Gland hence no production but the Chemo/Radiation treatment saved my life so now I am picking up the pieces! I am Hypothyroid - I believed I was not assessed at optimum level and a Dr treated me for high blood pressure. Haha! I became suspicious as I believed it was the T4 in the Levothyroxine dose causing high BP.
I recently changed my Dr following a fair bit of research! He is brilliant! He dismissed my pseudo BP diagnosis but followed up with the Ambulatory BP test for 24hrs - the result - I do NOT have a BP problem!
My dose of Levo was decreased to 75mcg daily - what a difference in health since my new evaluation!
However, I take IP 6 Inositol Hexaphosphate - 4 daily to look after my cells and well being. At present, I am experimenting with Ashwaraganda,
mainly for Adrenal support but very carefully such as one capsule every four days. It is very potent and certainly does wonders for the adrenals but everyone has varying sensitivities.
As you say Auntyp62 - it's not only one condition , one needs to support the condition with strong support of all other body nutrients.
This Website is more than excellent!
How long have you been on this dose? If the dose of T4 is too small for you, it will surely make you feel worse. You do want to have free T4 and free T3 tested. Post results with ranges and folks here can help you sort out where things might not be right. And, of course, the above recommendations about looking at B12 and other B vitamins, D, iron, are sound. Also, it's worth looking at trace minerals such as selenium, potassium, zinc, etc.
