Hi there, thanks for allowing me to join the group 😊 My name is Laura. I have an overactive thyroid with five nodules on it measuring around 5 mm each. I’m almost 60 yrs old and this problem is in my family. My question is - Has anyone ever experienced a “Thyroid Storm” would you know if you had ? Thank in advance

Hi there Cakemaking I cannot help with a thyroid storm but just wanted to write you a few little words so you know you are not alone in this.

Last year I was hyper and very poorly indeed with the whole shabang of hyper symptoms, trembling, breathless, hypnic jerks, fast heart beat and a pulse and felt at deaths door for months, I also have graves and hashis and have several nodules just like you that are the same size of yours that do cause irritation for me depending if my tsh is lower that 1.20. My argument with Endo is still going on regards to this. It is a long hard fight, its been a rollercoaster of a disease for a year.

I hope you get a response from lots if people who can describe to you the symptoms.😀

Hi Cakemaking

I suffered a thyroid storm in 2016. It was very frightening at the time.....I was lucky as I was actually in hospital at the time for an operation and a very astute Endo recognised my symptoms and reacted very quickly. The symptoms I had were severe tremors, delirium, nausea, heart rate 185, T4 >90....I lost 3 stone in weight very quickly and felt very very tired.....I slept most of the day. My emotions were shot, I cried at everything. I did not have a high temperature. I was 64 years old at the time.....I spent 3 months in hospital.

This was my experience......people will experience different symptoms, but all I can say is, if you suspect thyroid storm do not hesitate to go to A&E as it can be fatal if not caught in time......better to be safe......

Best Wishes
