Itchy feet and sore to touch: Hi, been on 50levo... - Thyroid UK
Itchy feet and sore to touch
Thyroid blood tests should be retested 6-8 weeks after starting on Levothyroxine, so it's overdue to get blood test
NHS guidelines saying standard starter dose is 50mcgs

All thyroid tests should ideally be done as early as possible in morning and fasting. When on Levothyroxine, don't take in the 24 hours prior to test, delay and take straight after test. This gives highest TSH, lowest FT4 and most consistent results. (Patient to patient tip, GP will be unaware)
For full Thyroid evaluation you need TSH, FT4, FT3 plus TPO and TG thyroid antibodies and also very important to test vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12
Private tests are available. Thousands on here forced to do this as NHS often refuses to test FT3 or antibodies or vitamins

Medichecks Thyroid plus ultra vitamin or Blue Horizon Thyroid plus eleven are the most popular choice. DIY finger prick test or option to pay extra for private blood draw. Both companies often have money off offers.
If antibodies are high this is Hashimoto's, (also known by medics here in UK more commonly as autoimmune thyroid disease).
About 90% of all hypothyroidism in Uk is due to Hashimoto's. Low vitamins are especially common with Hashimoto's. Food intolerances are very common too, especially gluten. So it's important to get TPO and TG thyroid antibodies tested at least once .

Have you the details of any blood test that you could share, it would then be easier for people to reply. You sound as though you are allergic to something in the Levo, did you
have the itching before taking Levo?
Haven't asked my doctor for blood results, haven't had the itching before levo, feel l need to have more bloods, last tests was in June, and was told to retest in Oct,l don't feel I can carry on untill then,
If you can afford them get some done privately I do this even though It costs extra I have found them to be invaluable post them on here with your ranges for people to
help you with their brilliant advice.
I couldn't take levo either but it affected me in different ways to you. The only way I got better was to join this site, posted my blood test results on here and waited for answers, now I feel fine and this without a thyroid too.
When I started on Levothyroxine I got a total of three letters from the doctor in a couple of weeks telling me the next blood test was in 3 months! But I had also (when first tested, a week or two before the 3rd letter!) been told to have thyroid levels tested in 2 months (officially it's 6-8 weeks when you are trying to get thyroid levels adjusted). I queried this and they said yes test for thyroid in 2 months, but they only did the thyroid test. So I assume the other blood tests are the 3 months ones. So they should at least test your thyroid long before October, especially as you are having symptoms
Hope that helps x
