Sugars and "surface" body pain...?

So... for many years, I thought this issue was related to over-alcohol consumption, but it's happening this morning, and I didn't drink at all...

My "skin hurts." All down my back, and into my legs. I don't really know how else to describe it. It's not deep, it's not joint, it's not muscle; just the surface, and yet feels like deep bruising. It's hard to touch myself---like washing in the shower. I hope I'm not the only weird one with this problem. I know it sounds weird, anyway, and I can't find anything on the internet that truly gives this issue any credence...

I DID cheat on Keto yesterday. I did not DIRECTLY have sugar, but I did have popcorn and a bunch (3 servings or so) of fruit, as well as a milkshake made with stevia and heavy cream. I needed a cheat day, but didn't feel like TOTALLY falling off the keto-wagon.

Just to re-clarify, this USED to happen to me all the time when I drank too much; I did NOT drink this past weekend, and yet it's happening this morning after some fairly light cheating on Keto. So, I'm asking, is there anyone else that has this issue---with sugars/things that turn to sugar in the body?

This sounds similar to what I suffered from during the first year or so of taking levothyroxine, following a prolonged period of undiagnosed severe hypothyroidism.

That was around twelve years ago now, and it was excruciating to the point that I couldn't bear even the lightest of fabric touching my skin. I still have it to a minor degree, which I have learned to live with.

I put it down to something like damaged nerve endings caused by inappropriate thyroid hormone levels. A couple of doctors that I consulted agreed with my self diagnosis of allodynia en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Allod... and offered various drugs, which I declined.

I've never pinpointed a specific trigger, and I strongly suspect triggers could vary for any one of us anyway, so your suggestion of sugars triggering yours doesn't sound at all unlikely.

Where somewhat similar, this isn't quite the same. Unless I'm misunderstanding, Allodynia has to do with some previous injury? But definitely something similar like this... touching, stroking, etc., but it's over a large portion of my body---all up and down back and thighs, even into neck and shoulders now, as the morning wears on. Feels just like those old drinking days back when.

No, allodynia is the name given to a condition when you feel abnormal pain from normal stimuli. Allodynia comes in many guises and can be as bizarre as feeling pain in your leg when the doorbell rings! In this case, your brain is misinterpreting things.

It doesn't have to be anything to do with any previous known injury. Although, if you think about it, maybe your drinking days did some damage to your nerve endings? And yes, I get it over a large proportion of my body. Worst area being torso. Some days it's worse than others.

Oh my goodness, this is exactly what has been happening to me recently!!! I thought inward the only and weird one as posted recently about this but no one related! 😃

Last weekend it was so bad I was stuck in bed whole weekend. Since then it improved slightly but still very sensitive to touch and hurts. When at work I have to keep getting up as my bum hurts from siting, my skin hurts when I put my clothes on or take off, shower also. It’s insane!

I also feel like my skin is also hard and thick, like pumped with water or some substance- mucin? This is not how it used to be. It also is purple-ish colour in all affected areas -back, bum, thighs and belly and upper arms.

Does it happen to you regularly or only happened this one time? For me unfortunately it’s been a regular thing. I am not clear why this is happening, maybe we can work on the case together, I’m at my wits end!

Just this one time, recently. Used to ALWAYS happen when I drank alcohol to excess, but I don't do that anymore. LOL. I figured it was dehydration effects that were particular to ME. But, as I said, no alcohol (and I'm not dehydrated)---only stuff that turns to SUGAR... after not having any for months.

Hmmm maybe that’s glycogen from the carbs? Glycogen attracts extra water so you could be swollen from that? Every gram of glycogen carries 3 grams of water.

Hmmm. Hadn't thought of that. I am retaining a bit of extra water today; that's such a regular occurrence for me that I hadn't thought anything of it. THAT'S a problem I can solve, if that's it. Thanks for that idea :-)

No worries, hope it goes away. I think it is likely you’re swollen from the carbs 🙂 any chance you went high on sodium too?

Gotta have salt on popcorn, no? LOL, at least it was the pink stuff ;-)

Your description of hard thick pumped up purplish colour skin strongly suggests you are not optimally medicated for your thyroid condition.

Hi StichFairy! yes I am not, currently upping my NDT- I’ve switched form 10 years of Levo and all then undermedicated 😣

Do you happen to know why my skin is like this? I am really struggling to find any info on this as well as how to relieve this.

I think it's quite simply that you don't have the right amount of thyroid hormones in your body. Get the right dose and it should gradually sort itself out.
