July test results

So I got a repeat blood test, as my previous Gp said I should have another in 3-6 months due to high TSH, and I was feeling very tired again. I've attached these as an image.

The GP said that although TSH is elevated, it has come down from over 6 in my previous test and is no cause for concern, and has proposed no further action. He says the thyroid can just get 'lazy' and the high TSH compensates. ABs negative too which is reassuring.

As in my previous test, free T4 is strangely right at the top of the range, so I suppose the GPs interpretation is believeable. Ive been working very hard in training these last few months so maybe I just need to rest a bit more.

From the test, I'll probably start supplementing with B complex, just to keep folate/ B12 up.

Does this all seem sensible?

Thanks

Anthony

Your ferritin is low, it's recommended to be half way through range. You can help raise your level by eating liver regularly, maximum 200g per week due to it's high Vit A content, also liver pate, black pudding, and including lots of iron rich foods in your diet apjcn.nhri.org.tw/server/in...

Folate is best at least half way through range. I would consider Thorne Basic B (which raised my bottom of range folate to top of range in 2.5 months by taking 1 capsule daily) or some members like Igennus Super B and the dose equivalent to Thorne Basic B is 2 tablets of Igennus.

For Vit D, the Vit D Council, the Vit D Society and Grassroots Health all recommend a level of 100-150nmol/L.

I don't understand your top of range FT4 with an over range TSH though. I would want thyroid antibodies testing and to get both Thyroid Peroxidase (TPO) and Thyroglobulin (TG) you may need to do a private test with Medichecks as part of one of their thyroid bundles.

Thanks for your advice. I will go for the Medichecks test including ft3 and antibodies next time they have a deal on. TPO was within range in the test results I posted but they didn't test TG.

Will order some thorne basic and start on vit D now summer is winding down. Both GPs I've seen didn't understand those results either!

He says the thyroid can just get 'lazy' and the high TSH compensates.

Oh what rubbish! Compensates for what? TSH can't compensate for thyroid hormones, it doesn't do the same thing at all. And, without TSH, the thyroid won't do anything at all, but that doesn't make it 'lazy'. Thyroid Stimulating Hormone. Stimulates the thyroid to make more hormone. Yours is high, suggesting that the pituitary wants more hormone despite your high FT4. I'm guessing, then, that you probably have a low FT3, and that's what wants testing.

"lazy" is a value judgement. Applying anthropomorphism to individual organs is crass in the extreme.

Especially for a doctor.

Thanks, I'll order a test from medichecks including FT3

Anthony, obviously you are not converting very well. As greygoose mentioned, your FT3 is probably very low by comparison to your FT4. Some of your cofactors as SeasideSusie mentions may be part of the problem. Seeing your FT3 could be very helpful. I believe you can be eating a healthy diet but if you aren't absorbing the minerals and breaking down amino acids you are going to be deficient. I think taking Betaine HCL and/or digestive enzymes might do you a lot of good. I also like using unfiltered apple cider vinegar with some meals.
