Undetectable Serum Iodine levels???

I just got my labs back which said I have "undetectable (serum) iodine? I keep hearing how the only method to test is through urine, but because of my experience in the past with a high dose iodine attempt, that petrifies me! It had been in the upper 20s for a year or more, but it has not dropped to ZERO, so i am just assuming I have very little of it and calling it that! I am going to try bladderwrack and starting a multi again with it, and I use pulse almost daily. I asked the Dr but he seemed pretty adamant about it not being related to my increased/double T3 (am now at 100, with 1/2 grain NP Thryoid). I am just afraid I am doing this to myself :-( My T3 was down also which seems bizarre since again, I doubled my dose. I also have been drinking a lot of water though a Brita filter which doesn't filter out the fluoride - it's just that my Berkey filter which does, sits on the counter b/c it doesn't fit in the fridge and its warm - blech! Anyone btdt?

I really would not attempt to supplement iodine by yourself. Certainly not with a multi-vit! There are so many things wrong with multi-vits. You need a doctor that understands thyroid and iodine to help you, or you could make things a hell of a lot worse!

Besides, that result sounds bogus, to me. How can you possibly have zero iodine when you're taking thyroid hormone replacement? 100 mcg T3 would give you 48.8 mcg iodine. And 1/2 a grain NDT would give you 14.5 mcg iodine. Plus whatever you get in your food. Iodine is not used up, like other nutrients, it is recycled in the body. So, I very much doubt you have zero mcg iodine in your body. I would want a retest - perhaps by a different method? - if I were you.

Was that a loading test where you take iodine before the test? That test is unreliable. Best urine test is where you don't take any iodine before hand so that you can establish your actual existing level.

If you want to do that test you would need to use ThyroidUK as your "practioner" as Genova don't deal direct with the public.
