Hiya, I have Hashimotos and have had a diagnosis for 4 years. I had my daughter 15 months ago and my thyroid health suffered quite a bit I think. It took me a year to get my TSH in range and for the most part I feel well now. I am mostly Paleo after doing AIP and this helps me enormously. I also supplement with various things on the advice of a functional nutritionist. Anyway I still have hair loss when I run my fingers through my hair (2-4 strands) and then when I wash it (lots of strands that form a clump.) I have been specific about how much hair I am losing as I want to know if this is normal?
I am not too worried about the hair loss in terms of my hair as I have a thick head of hair. It’s more because it may be a symptom of something? I want to make sure I have all bases covered in terms of my health as we would like another baby. Want to know if it could be an indication of anything else wrong? Thanks in advance for any advice!

Thanks for replies, TSH is around 1 atm. Bit frustrated about the FT4 and FT3 results, the printout that I got from GP doesn’t have that detail on. Wonder if they don’t test that? Anyone else have any luck getting these numbers from GP? Last test vit D, folate and B12 ok but ferritin on the lower end so supplementing with spatone.
Literally thousands on here forced to test privately
For full Thyroid evaluation you need TSH, FT4, TT4, FT3 plus TPO and TG thyroid antibodies and also very important to test vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12
Private tests are available. Thousands on here forced to do this as NHS often refuses to test FT3 or antibodies or vitamins
Medichecks Thyroid plus ultra vitamin or Blue Horizon Thyroid plus eleven are the most popular choice. DIY finger prick test or option to pay extra for private blood draw. Both companies often have money off offers.
All thyroid tests should ideally be done as early as possible in morning and fasting. When on Levothyroxine, don't take in the 24 hours prior to test, delay and take straight after test. If also on T3, make sure to take last dose 12 hours prior to test. This gives highest TSH, lowest FT4 and most consistent results. (Patient to patient tip, GP will be unaware)
Important to keep vitamins optimal, especially with Hashimoto's
You're not alone in having significant hair loss after the first birthday of my second child. Mine never fully recovered and that was a long time ago (unfortunately back then, my GP didn't seem to make a connection to thyroid) but, like you I fortunately had plenty to spare. My husband kindly didn't comment, but I knew he could see it too. Very important to note - I was also anemic and that also 'masked' a b12 deficiency... Low zinc and selenium can also cause hair loss.
