After having been prescribed too much of this medication and feeling very wobbly and confused I was given the choice of surgery, or swallow a radio active capsule due to a nodule showing up in the scan or to continue the Carbimazole on a small daily dose.i chose the last option hoping I could get back my balance at least. I still feel dreadful and have had several falls. I was given muscle strengthening exercises to do at home but some days I don't know " which way is up " I cannot peg out my washing or see to anything in the garden and greenhouse and have to push myself to get meals for us both. Does any one out there on our forum know if I am thinking on the right lines? Polly X
Could it be Carbimazole?: After having been... - Thyroid UK
Could it be Carbimazole?
I can't see any previous blood test results on any old thyroid posts
When did you last see your endocrinologist? Carbimazole should be very carefully managed
Do you know what your most recent results and ranges are for TSH, FT4 and FT3
Most importantly do you know if you have had any thyroid antibodies tested
For Graves' disease (overactive) you need TSI or TRab antibodies tested
For both Graves and Hashimoto's (under active) you need TPO and TG antibodies tested

Low vitamin levels are extremely common with both over active and under active thyroid
Essential to test B12, folate, vitamin D and ferritin
Ask your GP for these tests urgently
Low B12 can cause dizziness and unsteady gait
B12 also drops when we age
For full Thyroid evaluation you need TSH, FT4, TT4, FT3 plus TPO and TG thyroid antibodies and also very important to test vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12
Private tests are available. Thousands on here forced to do this as NHS often refuses to test FT3 or antibodies or vitamins

Medichecks Thyroid plus ultra vitamin or Blue Horizon Thyroid plus eleven are the most popular choice. DIY finger prick test or option to pay extra for private blood draw. Both companies often have money off offers.
All thyroid tests should ideally be done as early as possible in morning and fasting. This gives highest TSH, lowest FT4 and most consistent results. (Patient to patient tip, GP will be unaware)
