Overactive thyroid: Hi..can you get pins and... - Thyroid UK
Overactive thyroid
I. don't think pins/needles are a sign of overmedicating but others who may have had the same problems will respond.
Pins/needles could also be due to a B12 deficiency so if you've not had this checked ask for it at your next appointment. In fact if you've not had the lot tested ask for the following:-
B12, Vit D, iron, ferritin and folate
Get a print-out of results with the ranges and put on a new post for responses.
If it's mainly happening at night then probably carpal tunnel syndrome, night is worse when wrists are bent, you can test it yourself, with middle finger of other hand tap quickily on the inside where your hand meets your wrist, if that brings on the sensation then it's cts. You can buy a splint to wear at night which keeps your wrist straight, I needed surgery to cure mine.
Carpel tunnel is a symptom of low thyroid.
How's your B12?
A doc told me that an under active thyroid can mimic symptoms of CTS, which I also have to wear splints for. He was going to send me for a nerve test or something but I couldn't be bothered. You might have genuine CTS, the over active thyroid is just a coincidence.
Low vitamin levels are often the problem
You need B12, folate, ferritin and vitamin D tested
B12 is usually cause of pins and needles
