Post Thyroid Ca Levo

Hello All, I’m pretty sure I require Levo. Very sorry - I don’t have any reference ranges. Pre hemithyroidectomy I had a TSH of 1.6, on Tuesday it was 3.65. My FT4 was 20 pre op and is now 12.9. On Tuesday I was 8wks plus 4 days post op. The GP is refusing to prescribe because I am still in reference range. I don’t feel myself and my surgeon told me verbally that my TSH should be kept below 2. Unfortunately he hasn’t put this in writing and is away until 24th August. I really don’t want to wait until then and feel any worse. Does anyone please have any advice? Thank you in advance.

Put this in writing to your doctor. Send a copy to him and the practice manager. It will then go on your records. Harder to ignore if it’s in writing and can’t be dismissed if you become ill as a you said they said. Hope it works, good luck

Thank you. I will be contacting my consultant when he gets back from holiday to ask him to write to my GP too.

Hi, please don't let the medical profession keep telling you everything's ok. I had 7/8ths thyroid gland removed 30 years ago. I was left unmedicated for over 2 years as GP kept saying the 1/8th will cover me and provide enough hormone. This is not the case, I became very ill- don't let them do the same to you. Good luck

Thank you. I have managed to find a gp to prescribe. Started 50micrograms 2 days ago. Do you think I should get T3 tested too?

I personally would get your Levo dose sorted first. You should have your bloods tested after 8 weeks to see what progress it's made. You should have your Levothyroxine increased in stages of 25mg and retested every 8 weeks until you feel well. If you cannot get sorted on just Levo then you can start thinking about T3 testing and vitamin testing..Too early days yet to think about that. Glad you managed to get sorted with a prescription, hope you feel better soon.

Your welcome. I have only just recently found out how being hypothyroid can affect your vitamins - all info obtained from they very knowledgeable people on this site, read as many questions and answers as you can and your knowledge will build, if your unsure then ask a question and someone will answer and give advice, it's invaluable. Good luck with your on going treatment, any future blood tests from GP you can request the results and ranges. Usually the GP tests THS and T4 and you can put results on this forum and see what people suggest.
