Some good news - endo apt offered sooner

Hi everyone I wanted to share a bit of good news. My "urgent" referral from my GP had originally generated an "urgent" appointment with an NHS endo for 24 th September. This followed a blood result for cortisol of 45 (normal range 150 - 600). However my apt has now been brought forward to.....next Tuesday. Result!

Best wishes all

With a result of 45 you should have been started on Hydrocortisone already!!!! That is much too low! I'm glad you're seeing an Endo next week - you must feel really ill! If you are Facebook then do join the UK Addisons info & support group for more help.

Hi PaulineS, thanks for your reply. I am not currently on Facebook but this might be an incentive if I can join UK Addisons info and support. My GP had a phone call from the lab with the test results and had me round to the surgery pronto and started me on 15 mg of Hydrocortisone immediately. You are right I do feel really ill and it's good to have that validated by someone who knows! I do not have a diagnosis as yet, but I am aware that it could be Addisons.

Best wishes

You can also access addisons.org.uk for more information. Make sure you split the dose (which is very low) over the day taking the largest dose an hour before you get up in the morning then the other two about 5 hours a part. HC only lasts inthe body for 4-6 hours so you will also have long periods where you will have no cortisol in your body. It will take quite some time to begin to feel better.

Thanks Pauline, the only advice I received from GP was take 10mg in morning and 5 at lunch. Still feeling poorly and off work so I am hoping the endo will increase doseage. This also makes sense as (even after lectures from GP about not forgetting doses) I forgot a lunchtime dose (they don't reckon on the brain fog!) and did not remember until 9pm. Next morning at 4am I was bringing up bile - it was a lesson learned - I will never forget again!

How are you getting on?
