My Journey on T3, sorry turned into a bit of a long post

I just wanted to give an update to my journey on T3 as only started a week ago and see if anyone else can relate or is on the start of their T3 journey with me.

Finally after a year with my current Endocrinologist I was offered a trial on T3 and started last week. Although I read on here many different variations on what to do and many knowledgeable people giving their advice I decided to go with what my consultant has advised and see how I went as I wanted to make sure that I followed their instructions or I could be seen as a pain in the rear end (which they already think anyway as I confessed to changing my dose of Eltroxin myself as my GP was on board with me dosing myself with blood test checks)

So I received my 12 weeks worth of Morningside 20mcg and the advice was 10mcg once a day and reduce my Eltroxin from 150mcg 5 days and week and 175mcg 2 days a week to 125mcg daily. I am extremely sensitive to medication changes so didn't follow this :) I have reduced to 150/125mcg alternate days for now as I know I can handle that with 10mcg T3.

I take my tablets at night so have included the T3 at night and thankfully so far I have had no adverse effects of the 10mcg of T3. I have been watching out for symptoms shown in other posts in case i have to reduce the dose if I couldn't handle it.

I am now 9 days in and although my tiredness hasn't subsided yet I have had other symptoms reduce. I had really bad what I call chicken skin on my arms (the horrible raised spots on the upper and lower arms) which I couldn't get rid of with anything and that has cleared up, I seem to sleep better at night without waking up, my skin in general is looking healthier, my weight has been reducing slightly (not sure if that is the Berberine?) My hair doesn't seem to be falling out as badly, I don't seem to be as bloated and my stomach/intestines don't seem to be as bruised if that makes sense. My heart rate has started to increase so I will now reduce my Eltroxin slightly again and see if that helps reduce it.

I will have a blood test at the 6 week point and should have a consultant appointment soon after so will ask for an increase to 20mcg daily then and not wait the full 12 weeks. I also will have to ask where they got their T3 dosage advice from as well.

Hopefully for me this will continue to improve my symptoms but now wish I had started T3 sooner.

I hope that you will find relief in your symptoms soon too, I have been waiting for relief since being a teenager and diagnosed in 2002. Make sure you push what you want with your GPs and Consultants and if you don't get any joy move to ones that will help.

Which brand of T3 did you decide to go for in the end?

Make sure to always get same one, at each prescription

I didn't have a choice this time as i had to get it from the hospital Pharmacy which was Morningside. Seems to agree with me so if and when it gets moved back to my GP surgery then that is what I will ask them to order if it remains ok :)

Morningside Healthcare is my preferred option. Mercury Pharma is generally thought weaker.

I think I was extremely lucky that is what they stock.

A couple of links which might be helpful:

I am glad you are feeling an improvement with the addition of T3. A couple of links which may interest you and it would be wonderful if all doctors had the same train of thoughts re treatment.

I have returned to good health with relief of symptoms on T3 only.

I hope you, too, find it will work for you.

Thanks for publishing your T3 journey. It’s been helpful.

I’m going to introduce T3 soon, I’m just waiting for my blood to be taken Monday and see the results before I introduce it.

Best wishes
