I’ve been gluten free for over a week now and my face is so spotty :(

Has anyone else experienced this in the early stages of going gluten free?? 😟

Quite the opposite for me betty2480 . My skin cleared and I was not longer constipated.

Yes, I’m the same, for the first time my skin is clear. I have always had spots and blemishes but since I stopped gluten they are gone, I can’t believe it myself!

I remember I felt really awful when I gave up gluten - like I had really severe flu. I started to improve after about five days which is when I got my first benefits of being gluten-free (my temper massively improved), but it took about two weeks before all evidence of the "flu" had gone. I can't remember whether or not I was spotty, but it wouldn't surprise me if it was a symptom some people get.

It might not be the lack of gluten that is making you spotty. It might be that your nutrient levels are starting to rise as a result of going gluten-free. Increasing B12 levels can sometimes cause spots temporarily.

When I started taking B12 supplements (methycobalamin) I got incredibly spotty - worse than I'd been since I was a teenager. It took two - three months for the spots to die down. After they disappeared my skin was better than I could ever remember it being as an adult.

That’s really interesting as I’ve been supplementing B12 to the point where I need to cut back (levels were too high!) so that probably explains the spottiness!

Thank you 😊 xx

Cutting back is obviously your choice, but having high (over the range) levels of B12 isn't a problem. B12 isn't poisonous.

My serum B12 ended up being over 2000 for quite a long time (a few years). But in recent months I've started allowing it to drop (slowly) because I decided I was probably just wasting my money. And guess what?! You get spots on the way down, too. *sigh*
