Hi, as the subject title suggests I have recently been diagnosed with an underactive thyroid. I have been carrying some research into what I should/shouldn't eat, but I'm getting conflicting information, one site says don't eat nuts, then another says do eat nuts.
I was in another part of this forum/site and was advised to come here.
Does anyone have any advice, tips or diet plans to follow?
Should I eat little and often or stick to 3 meals a day?
What foods should I stay away from or start eating more of?
PS I don't like fish, I say this as some sites suggest more fish.
There are no rules. You have to find out what suits you and what doesn't.
The baddies are all forms of soy - soy protein, soy milk, soy oil, etc. - artificial sweeteners and processed seed oils - and therefore most processed foods because processed foods are full of the above.
If you have high antibodies, you might be sensitive to gluten/have Coeliac disease, so a 100% gluten-free diet might make you feel better. Some people find the Autoimmune Paleo diet helps them. Others don't. But, otherwise, if you like nuts and they agree with you, eat them. If you don't like fish, don't eat it. Get your protein elsewhere.
There is no magic food that is going to make you feel suddenly well, but you do need plenty of nutrients. and that can be difficult because hypos often have low stomach acid, and don't absorb them very well. So, it would be a good idea to get your vit D, vit B12, folate and ferritin tested, to see if you need to supplement them. Enjoy!
