What the heck

Hi all, my youngest son has had hypo symptoms for ages. Fatigue, dry skin and hair, constipation and feeling the cold. He had his blood tested and the doc said bloods came back okay so I asked them for a printout and heres what they have given.

Haemoglobin A1c level normal no action.

Serum TSH normal no action

full blood count normal no action.

No ranges no actual levels given. What are our rights to obtain the actual figures associated with his results.

In the UK you have a legal right, under the Data Protection Act, to have copies of your medical records and test results, including reference ranges where they are given.

And from 25th May 2018 you cannot be charged for any of this.

This response is partly tongue-in-cheek.

Perhaps this is how the medical profession hopes to get round the new legislation. The lab just tells them "normal no action" without mentioning any numbers, and the GP, with clear conscience, can say it is all the information he has.

How do we obtain our ranges then, how do we know if we can take supplements.

Ask for access to your medical records and blood test results online. Then you should hopefully see what information your GP actually has.

The alternative is that you ask for a paper copy of the actual results - the numbers and the reference ranges. If the receptionist refuses to give you the results, ask to see the practice manager. They are breaking the law if they refuse to give you access or copies of results, as appropriate.

Make sure you always take proof of identity with you when asking about results or access to results.

The receptionist hates me as ive written formal complaints about her. The surgery does not have a manager at the moment that's why she is getting away with what she is doing. They have two surgeries I will ask at the other one but some of the receptionists there are like Hitlers side kicks. I will give it a go. My son struggles to get out of bed and never has any energy. I'm so surprised that his results have came back saying no action. I have more energy that him. I have been giving him iron but am scared that without knowing his results I could be doing more harm than good so ive stopped giving him any but he has become pale again without it. Im at a loss.
