Medichecks and nhs contradicting results again 😩😩😩😩 advice please!!!!!

Urgh. I am at a loss as to what to do.

This is now the 2nd time I have had contradicting nhs and medixhecks blood results done 24 hours apart. No biotin/ vitamins taken 6 days prior (again).

Results are the same as several weeks ago (see last post).

Nhs shows I am undermedicated with low t3 and low t4 and high tsh. Negative for antibodies.

Tsh 9.2

T4 12 (9-19)

T3 3.4 (2.9-4.9)

Pwroxidase negative.

medichecks shows high tsh and high frees.

Please can ANYONE shed any light as to what might be going on? Both reaukts for a second time show a

Completely different story and medical route to take. I simply do not understand why the results are so different when everything was done the same.

All I know is I am very sick.

Fatigue, no energy, tremors that are getting, I think worse. Headaches.

My private endo going by the medichecks reaults has told me to get an mri to rule out pituitary adonema / thyroid hormone resistance. Yet my gp is a little reluctant as he’s going by nhs reaults...

Any advise???

Was Medichecks test finger prick test? Or blood draw

Both tests done early morning and fasting?

No levothyroxine 24 hours prior and no T3 12 hours prior?

What supplements do you take?

Do you have Hashimotos?

I had a blood draw done by both. No t3 taken 12 hours before.

Yes fasting.

I don’t know if I have hashis or not now as nhs comeS back as negative and medichecks

Presumably NHS only tested TPO not TG antibodies?

TPO can go up and down a lot

Are you really strictly gluten free?

Insomnia (on previous post) can be due to low vitamin D

When were vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12 levels last tested?

I’m supplementing 5000iu vit d.

Insomnia comes in bouts. Not suffering at present. Yes I really am strictly gluten free!! I did aip for

Almost 2 months which is very strict. Have since moved to paleo instead as i felt no different. But yes no gluten (I’m very sensitive to it!)

Antibodies tested. I know they can change, but pretty drastic results that are only a day apart!

Hi Dee, I had a microadenoma or Pituitary tumour (non malignant) in 2001 whilst going through chemo. It was diagnosed at first with a prolactin level blood test ( which came back high) then an MRI scan which revealed the microadenoma. I was treated with tablets to shrink it down. Breast discharge is a pointer that your prolactin levels are too high.

In my case, I was going through chemo for bowel cancer and on antidepressants. The Maxillon that was given IV to alleviate chemo sickness, combined with the antidepressant was attributed as to why I developed the pituitary tumour. I had not been diagnosed at that point with Hashimotos UAT so I don;t know if it is all relevant to why I developed Hashimotos.

My GP said recently that my thyroid levels were suspect after the birth of my second daughter 22 years ago, but I have only been on Levo for 10 years.

I too get frustrated with nhs..... my story is long !

So, in short; i would ask for a prolactin level blood test or go for the MRI scan

I think Medichecks might be experiencing an issue with their testing processes. As you know, a number of us have had unexpected results from Medichecks recently... Might be worth mentioning that to Medichecks when they call.

I’m minded to believe the NHS test over the Medichecks one. It makes the most sense!

I have just checked the lab code on each of my medichecks tests and the cp number is different on each of them. Does that indicate a different lab each time?

I do not know. Suggest you ask County Pathology AND Medichecks.

This is extremely worrying particularly as people are altering their dose on the strength of these results. If Medicheck are recommended by Thyroid UK then surely they should contact Medicheck and find out what’s happening and reconsider whether they should keep recommending them? There is of course the possibility that the NHS test is incorrect?

Yes.. strange thing is that the nhs reaults are fairly consistent each time with the previous, as are the medichecks ones. But comparing together, they are COMPLETELY different.

Have you spoken to medicheck? You might want to inform them they are getting some negative press on here. I’ve only ever had one test done with medicheck and it was almost identical to NHS one done same day with same blood draw. If they don’t sort it though I would be reluctant to use them again.

I have sometimes been suspicious of how consistent NHS tests are. Despite a dose change, and sometimes with entirely different levels of health, test results have been the same. I have wondered if they sometimes just copy down the previous results to speed the process up / cope with high workload. Hence I never trust the tests and would never adjust dose just on the basis of one test result.

Or perhaps I’m being overly cynical ????

Yes I increased my dose of levo. as my Medichecks results showed my Total T4 and FT3 had dropped quite a lot from my previous NHS results. I am now getting new symptoms and I am wondering if I did needed to increase after all.

I think for peace of mind, next time I would test with another company instead of medichecks - if the other company matches your NHS results, you will know it was a medichecks issue, if the new results match medichecks, then you have more of a case to take up with your GP.

Blue horizons are recommended by thyroid UK, and I've used Thriva in the past with no complaints.

I actually think you should speak with medicheck and get them to repeat the test for free. Have a test with Blue Horizon also but give medicheck the chance to repeat the test and see what your results are 2nd time around. You can also compare them with BH.

Which one did you get first? Could it be that it has some to do with drawing your blood quite a bit or do they do anything differently? Or perhaps one of them got you mixed up with someone else? That is weird. Given that its your blood, it should be accurate. Hope you are able to get to the bottom of this

First lot I had medichecks one done first then the following day I had nhs one.

Second lot was vice versa.

I know it is so odd. I thought the first time round there was a mistake hence why I posted before. But the same thing happening is a bit odd...

Thats really weird! Are each of them consistent with their following lab? For example (medi checks 1 consistent with medic checks #2 Etc.?) I’m wondering if its good to get them checked the day after eachother; for instance will the lack of blood make a difference for the other? I dont personally know the answer to these questions but maybe its something to think about. Also if you have checked the reviews of each pathology lab, maybe others have mentioned this problem.

Yes both are consistent within their own lab. Both medicjecks ones follow on from each other as do the nhs. Medixhecks showing high tsh and high frees both times and nhs showing high tsh and low frees. I will investigate which labs they’re sent to today.

Just started reading about your problem and yes it's very strange though I can't help thinking that you think the reply for Medichecks was'strange' so may be you should share that comment with us.

Someone a while back got two phials of blood taken together and one sent NHS and can't remember whether the other one was Medichecks or Blue Horizon but they were similar if not the same. Maybe doing that is something you should be looking into.
