Wanting to try T3, for the first time, what can you advise?

Next week I'm getting full thyroid, Vits & mins tests done.

When I get my results I'd like to try T3.

Been clearing out our old house & found an expired bottle of WP thyroid, which I'd completely forgotten I'd ever bought. It got me thinking. When first starting hormone treatments, is it best to start with a T3/T4 combination or just T3 only.

I remember Dr P advising I buy these a couple of years ago. I tried two but scared to try more. I had not known of this brilliant forum back then, so as I become more familiar with all things thyroid I am confident to try things that are suggested.

I wondered what you good folk could advise. Again when on these treatments, if required, do you still increase dose every 6-8 weeks as you would if you were under GP?

Always grateful 🙂

It's best to start with T4 only.

When taking or adding T3 or NDT, you start with 1/4 pill/grain, and increase by 1/4 every 2 weeks.

BUT it's absolutely essential to have your full results first. No point in starting on NDT if you have nutritional deficiencies. And you need to know how well you convert before reducing T4 and adding T3. :)

That's great, thank you GG. I'll note that in my book so I don't forget.

I'll certainly wait for results before I take anything.

It's only since joining the forum that I can finally start asking more specific questions.

I have found the confidence & strength in approaching my GP with results & get them onboard my thyroid journey, even if it is only the Levo & the pathetically few tests I manage to get off them. I know I can test other things privately when required.

It'll be interesting 😉 At least I'm prepared for recognising when I'm being fobbed off & know more than the Doc.

That's all down to you guys. Just seen a post from Shaws about what GP's can test for, that was timely.

Thanks again.
