Sudden partial hearing loss only in one ear at a time quite muffled only for a few seconds then a high pitch beeping sound? What could that be?
Is this tinnitus? : Sudden partial hearing loss... - Thyroid UK
Is this tinnitus?
It sounds like Tinnitus which is also one of the symptoms of hypo:
thyroiduk.org.uk/tuk/about_...
I’m borderline hypo not medicated yet.. Is it normal for people who do not have thyroid disorders to get it? As I don’t have it very often
When you say borderline, what were your actual results?
For full Thyroid evaluation you need TSH, FT4, TT4, FT3 plus TPO and TG thyroid antibodies.
Plus vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12.
Low vitamins are very common
Essential to test thyroid antibodies, FT3 and FT4, plus vitamins
Private tests are available. Thousands on here forced to do this as NHS often refuses to test FT3 or antibodies

Medichecks Thyroid plus ultra vitamin or Blue Horizon Thyroid plus eleven are the most popular choice. DIY finger prick test or option to pay extra for private blood draw. Both companies often have money off offers.
All thyroid tests should ideally be done as early as possible in morning and fasting. This gives highest TSH and most consistent results. (Patient to patient tip, GP will be unaware)
If antibodies are high this is Hashimoto's, (also known by medics here in UK more commonly as autoimmune thyroid disease).
About 90% of all hypothyroidism in Uk is due to Hashimoto's. Low vitamins are especially common with Hashimoto's. Food intolerances too, especially gluten. So it's important to get antibodies tested.
List of hypothyroid symptoms. Tinnitus is common, as is being slightly deaf. Anxiety too
My first suggestion would be to get your ears checked for excess wax.
It sounds to me like you have tinnitus, but it is a good idea to eliminate simple, common and easy to treat problems before worrying about anything more annoying.
It could be tinnitus.
A couple of years ago I went completely deaf in one ear quite suddenly. I was driving home and i just seemed to go deaf. I put some oil in to see if that might help then eventually after a couple of days of being deaf in one ear I consulted Dr Google and discovered I should have gone to see my GP right away or certa8nly within I think it was four or five days. By that time it was the weekend and the surgery was closed.
I went on the Monday and after questioning about what the problem was I could see her counting on her fingers and said ‘it’s too late, it’s over five days now’. She sent me to the local ENT department anyway and I had my ears vacuumed and got my hearing back, well it’s not perfect but it’s ok for my age!
I’ve still got massive tinnitus - but I had it before I went deaf in that ear and the tinnitus is in both ears anyway - it is normally just an annoying high pitched whine / buzz. So it’s probably a good idea to go and see your doctor sooner rather than later.
Hi, my husband has just been diagnosed with menieres disease. The symptoms are as you stated. Muffled hearing and noise. You should get this checked by your gp. It comes and goes and may disappear for years and then return. There is a menieres society, have a look on there website.
My husband had an ear infection and his GP told him to leave it a few days - he went deaf in that ear. When he saw a consultant the consultant said that had he had it treated immediately he could have saved his hearing. I guess the moral of this story is that one should seek treatment/consultation as early as possible.
