Anyone tried taking bicarbonate of soda daily to help reduce inflammation? Interesting article but does it work?

I've never tried it on a regular basis, I've just used it very occasionally for indigestion.

There is lots of useful information on sodium bicarbonate here :

examine.com/supplements/sod...

People who panic easily or have some kind of panic disorder should avoid it, apparently, which was news to me.

I get it on prescription in connection with chronic kidney disease. But I also use it to brush my teeth instead of fluoride laden toothpastes.

Many people with hypothyroidism have low stomach acid, which stops them from absorbing nutrients from their food. Bicarbonate of soda is alkaline, so if you have low stomach acid it would make it worse.

I take it to help with interstitial Cystitis and it is the only thing that takes the edge off th incapacitating pain that can occur at any time. I've tried every medication available and nothing else has helped. I always have a tub of bicarb with me when I'm out. It also helps with restless leg because of the magnesium content. I wouldn't be able to do without it.

Hello you could also try D Mannose, which is a pro-biotic that sticks to the bacteria causing cystitis and gets flushed out in the urine. It’s been a lifesaver for many chronic cystitis sufferers.

Thanks for the info Janeroar, I'll have a look into it. Unfortunately it's not bacterial (infection based Cystitis) but nervous system possibly auto immune. Frankly thought I'd try anything so thank you.

I can vouch for D Mannose too. I was a terrible sufferer of cystitis, and a regular glass of this has taken away all symptoms for the last 2 years now. Amazing stuff

get your testosterone checked, if you have restless legs, as i have had it for years just thought it was hereditary because my dad had it, then after hysterectomy was given testosterone for libido, and hey presto no restless legs, so told my dad his testo was low, again given the hormone fixed it, I also have autoimmune, Hashimoto thyroid, only thing is you have to nag your gp to give it you as they only like giving it to men! even though we have it naturally too.

I too suffer with this. I use zerobase emollient from Dr. You can get it on Amazon. After trying antibiotics and several anti fungal creams this worked. You have to use it continually.

Isn't this the stuff our grannies used to put in the greens to keep the colour and then I had a feeling it was found to not be good but can't remember why. I use it externally when I get a water infection. It helps take the sting out and I'm sure this was used in a face mask mixed with lemon juice to remove black heads.

Bicarbonate of Soda was studied at Southampton University College Hospital and found to have a beneficial effect on Candida. I think the dose was one teaspoonful in a glass of water each morning.

Baking Soda is not the whole “fix”. One must also do some changes in their diets, and what they choose to consume for all things. There’s loads of stuff everyone’s forced to live with [tens of thousands of manmade chemicals, many are hormone and nutrient interrupters, as well as other damages]

Best bet: consult with someone who really knows their stuff re: dietary [read: alternative practitioners who really, actually, know about nutrition...NOT the garden variety nutritionist who is not much better educated than most Doctors about it]. That’s one of the 1st steps. Because you can get a LOT of relief by correcting dietary to be healthier. Then, IF you still are troubled with inflammation, other things might be added.

In a nutshell: diets high in fresh organic dark green leafy veggies, and overall, mostly fresh organic produce, usually drastically helps most conditions get better....it’s a lifestyle change, not a temporary thing.

Simply doing Baking Soda can help some people, though rarely as a stand-alone “bandaid”; generally, most need to make some Lifestyle changes in order to get rid of inflammation...do things which stop creating it. The tricky bit is teasing-out what things are really triggering the inflammation in your body.

Interesting topic.

My husband swears by it! Takes it regularly for indigestion (won't visit a GP to say if indigestion).

However, I read the label on the box after this topic posted. Hmmm.. it makes interesting reading regarding thyroid, autoimmune conditions... I think I would use it with caution. Read the label!
