Been diagnosed Hypothyroid for nearly 2 years . Weight gain is huge , still trying to lose it through Slimming World but so deflated as I seem to be going backwards . Tiredness is unbelievable. Feel hungover or drugged most mornings. Fed up with all the USA help / advice sites . Dr,s don’t or won’t understand what I’m going through , half of them don’t really know what it is . You Getting them to do a blood test is like asking for a whole day appointment- impossible. Please - is there any advice on here that simply explains what I should be telling/asking dr’s about or any self help vitamins/ medications I should be on too ???

Currently on 125 micro grams of Levothyroxine .

Thank you 😊🙏😘

Sounds like you're under-medicated. 125 mcg isn't a huge dose.

The first step to getting well is learning about your disease, and realising that you're not going to get much help from your doctors, because they know nothing about it.

Second step is getting hold of as many of your blood test results as possible. You need to know exactly what they were testing and exactly what the results were.

Self-help depends on what you were diagnosed with. Do you have Hashi's? Have you had your nutrients tested? I really think we need a lot more information before we can be of much help. :)

There's nothing on your profile? Do you live in the UK? How long have you been on 125 mcg levo? When did you have your last test?

For full Thyroid evaluation you need TSH, FT4, TT4, FT3 plus TPO and TG thyroid antibodies. Plus vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12.

Essential to test thyroid antibodies, FT3 and FT4, plus vitamins

All thyroid tests should ideally be done as early as possible in morning and fasting. When on Levothyroxine, don't take in the 24 hours prior to test, delay and take straight after

This gives highest TSH, lowest FT4 and most consistent results. (Patient to patient tip, GP will be unaware)

If antibodies are high this is Hashimoto's, (also known by medics here in UK more commonly as autoimmune thyroid disease).

About 90% of all hypothyroidism in Uk and USAis due to Hashimoto's. Low vitamins are especially common with Hashimoto's. Food intolerances too, especially gluten. So it's important to get antibodies tested.

Ideally ask GP for coeliac blood test first

Nearly all the world renown specialists are USA based. You need to look at root cause, usually in gut

Could you afford to get yoir own blood tests done? Many of us use Medichecks and Blue Horizon to do just that - costs between £50 and £100 depending on what you want.
