I’m new to posting on here but have been having a peak every now and then at other people’s posts ..
I was diagnosed with hyperthyroidism late last year and doc put me on 10mg of carbimazole till I saw endocrinologist.. my appointment came through very quick then endocrinologist put me on 80mg of propanol.. I don’t have Graves’ disease but do have nodules .. I had the fine needle aspiration biopsy
When I went to my next appointment to see the endocrinologist he said my thyroid levels were normal and didn’t seem interested when I told him that I still had symptoms and not feeling well at all
He said there was going to be a meeting to discuss what they were going to do with me .. I had to wait 6 weeks to be told to have another fine needle aspiration in a few weeks just before my next appointment
It’s been such a struggle these last few months and the propanol made me into a completely different person .. I’m actually taking them as and when now because I cannot deal with how they made me feel when in a regular dose ...as well as feeling rubbish from the hyperthyroidism... so argumentative, impatient, tired, forever eating , put so much weight on .. put on 2 stone , really bad hair loss ...very painful feet and aching/pain everywhere else ... total personality change.. it’s a horrible nasty condition
I would really appreciate if someone could translate my results from a recent blood test ... this is the first time I have been sent the results
Also ... is an operation the only solution for nodules?
Thank you in advance and I really do appreciate any replies
Hard to say without ranges but you ft4 looks as well within average ranges I've seen
Your ft3 is just over average ranges I've seen.
I think the endo will want your tsh to be higher and ft3 a bit lower. Maybe 15mcg Carbimizole will bring it back into range or even 10/15 alternative days.
I think maybe your propanol dose maybe a little high now your thyroid levels have lowered. Monitor your heart rate you may not need it now.
Hope you feeling better soon.
Maybe get your vitamins/minerals checked as being hyperthyroidism can cause depletion.
I couldn’t cope with propanolol and endo suggested every other day ... I’m actually going nearly 3 days before I need it .. but being naughty and opening the capsule and taking only half of it ... don’t get me wrong ... it’s awesome for panic and anxiety but at my worst I had paranoia, felt like I couldn’t deal with anyone or anything, wanted to be totally alone , fell out with my mum and son , just took me away from reality
My heart rate is usually around 70 when resting. At the moment when it decides to race and I’m resting it goes to about 115 that’s when propanolol comes out
( Sorry for going on ... but hopefully someone else reading this might find the answers they are looking for ... I know how desperate this hyperthyroid can make you feel when you have these changes all of a sudden and searching for others that have experienced the same thing and looking for answers )
Thank you very much and I’ll look into getting vitamin levels tested
Difficult to say anything without the ranges. But, as they say you don't have Grave's, did they actually test the antibodies?
I think your next step should be to get hold of all your blood test results. If you live in the UK, it is your legal right to have a copy. You need to know exactly what they've tested, and exactly what the results and ranges were. And, if they haven't tested your TPO and Tg antibodies, you should get them done, just to make sure you don't have Hashi's.
Medichecks Thyroid plus ultra vitamin or Blue Horizon Thyroid plus eleven are the most popular choice. DIY finger prick test or option to pay extra for private blood draw. Both companies often have money off offers.
All thyroid tests should ideally be done as early as possible in morning and fasting. This gives highest TSH and most consistent results. (Patient to patient tip, GP will be unaware)
If TPO and/or TG antibodies are high this is Hashimoto's, (also known by medics here in UK more commonly as autoimmune thyroid disease).
About 90% of all hypothyroidism in Uk is due to Hashimoto's. Low vitamins are especially common with Hashimoto's. Food intolerances too, especially gluten. So it's important to get tested.
You can have high TPO and TG with Graves. So it's important to test TRab antibodies for that
