Hi can anyone advise me on what vitamins I can take please. I am on 75 levo still feel really tired all the time and weight gain, but I’m doing my best to get round it. I’ve just been reduced in meds from 100 as I’m over medicated (apparently) I feel ok in every other way apart from no energy. So maybe some vitamins might pick me up a bit.

Thank you in advance

Jenny

If your GP reduced dose only based on TSH then you need to get full testing privately 8 weeks after dose reduction

Low vitamin levels can affect TSH

What was latest blood test results

For full Thyroid evaluation you need TSH, FT4, TT4, FT3 plus TPO and TG thyroid antibodies. Plus vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12.

Essential to test thyroid antibodies, FT3 and FT4, plus vitamins

Private tests are available. Thousands on here forced to do this as NHS often refuses to test FT3 or antibodies

Medichecks Thyroid plus ultra vitamin or Blue Horizon Thyroid plus eleven are the most popular choice. DIY finger prick test or option to pay extra for private blood draw. Both companies often have money off offers.

All thyroid tests should ideally be done as early as possible in morning and fasting.

If on Levothyroxine, don't take in the 24 hours prior to test, delay and take straight after

This gives highest TSH, lowest FT4 and most consistent results. (Patient to patient tip, GP will be unaware)

If antibodies are high this is Hashimoto's, (also known by medics here in UK more commonly as autoimmune thyroid disease).

About 90% of all hypothyroidism in Uk is due to Hashimoto's. Low vitamins are especially common with Hashimoto's. Food intolerances too, especially gluten. So it's important to get antibodies tested.

Hi Jenny, how did your doctor decide you were overmedicated? The only way to find this out is to do a Free T3 test and if this wasn't done, then your doctor has no way of knowing. I am not medically qualified but you don't sound overmedicated to me. Can you let us have your recent blood results with the ranges which might give a better picture of what is going on. As for vitamins, you need to have your Vitamin B12 and D3 tested as well as folate, ferritin and thyroid antibodies. There is no point taking unnecessary vitamins. You just create expensive urine as the unwanted vitamins pass through. Also, it can be harmful to take more fat soluble vitamins than you need, so best to test first. If your doctor doesn't want to test them, you can get them done privately. Medichecks are offering 20% off all blood tests till Monday. You won't feel better by taking vitamins if you not taking enough thyroid medication.
