Hello all you lovely helpful people. I made a complete hash of doing my private blood test for thyroid and vitamins with medichecks so I now have to have it done for me at my local hospital. What I need to know is..do I have it done before taking my usual Carbimazole tablet and do I need to have fasted ?
Many thanks in anticipation.

The reason for this is simple. There are quite a number of blood tests that must be done fasting. You might need some of those either now or in the future. If you have always fasted for tests, it won't make a difference to your thyroid tests as compared with previous tests.
It is possible that fasting does make a small difference to thyroid tests. Probably not enough to make a big fuss about but if all yours tests have been on the same basis, you know you are comparing like with like.
I'd like someone who has experience to answer about carbimazole.
Thank you helvella for your answers. Sometimes I'm told to do a fasting test and sometimes not..I will always do a fasting one from now on.
Regarding my difficulty posting..I think it must have been down to a very bad internet connection (I wonder if the weather interferes with connectivity) as everything seems to be back to normal now.
I always fasted and did not take meds before my bloodwork when I was on Tapazole. I did it consistently so I would get a standard result each time. I can’t say if it was necessary but I always think that blood work is best done fasting and without meds first thing in the morning if possible. It eliminates all possibility of problems and inconsistent results. Hope this is helpful!
This question used to bother me a lot in the beginning. But I guess it makes equal sense to just do it the way u've always done it so u can make accurate comparisons.
I'm used to doing it fasting though the doctors always tell me there's no need. I do it fasting as I want to know my levels at least 8-12 hours without medication.
Yes that's what I shall do from now on...seems the doctors dont know which is best way as I have been asked to do fasting sometimes and other times told it doesn't matter.
