Hello community,
Did anyone switch from Synthroid to Armour Synthroid?
Thank you
Hello community,
Did anyone switch from Synthroid to Armour Synthroid?
Thank you
Back in the nineties, I was diagnosed hypothyroid and was put on Synthroid. So began what I call my year from hell. Depression, profound fatigue, leg, thigh, shoulder bone aches and on and on. It seemed to get worse and I began beating the bushes to find a solution to my problem. An internist mentioned that my liver might not be converting to T 3? "Say what?" "My liver isn't doing what?" My first clue..... did research, found out about NDT, checked with the pharmacist and it was available. My doc was wonderful and, though he had never prescribed NDT, he was game. Within just a week or so, I have described the change as... "the sun came out and the angels sang" lol... It was like a miracle. I am still on NDT and doing well.
Thank you much. I'm actually taking Synthroid 5omg/day. How much Armour synthroid de I need to take please?
You have hashis ? I know you don't want to hear this but... you really need to get labs done to see what is going on before you start NDT. Some folks with hashis (hashimotos disease) do much better on synthetic T 4 (synthroid or levo) than they do with NDT. Some theorize since NDT is like the hormones your thyroid would be putting out if it could, hashis will attack the NDT. For instance, I don't have hashis and I do fine on NDT. My sister (only 18 mos apart in age) can't tolerate NDT but has done fantastic on Synthroid since she was diagnosed hypo and with hashimotos back in the eighties. It is also suggested that you have your iron, B 12 and D 3 levels at optimum before starting NDT. Others might have other suggestions for you. Why do you want to switch?
Exhausted and not feeling well in spite of my new diet.
I am so sorry to hear that, Pastry. You may have pooling or Reverse T 3 going on or... an adrenal issue. Hard to say without those labs. If you do get your own labs done privately, be sure to check your antibodies, Free T 3, Free T 4 and Reverse T 3. If all those (and iron, B 12/D3 also) seem okay, there is a 4 part saliva cortisol (adrenal) test that can be done. If you have been fine and feeling okay on Synthroid for some years and are just now starting to feel lousy, something is going on and NDT may not be the answer at all for you.
I had been taking Synthroid for 20 years. It's time to switch.
Actually I'm taking about Armour synthroid
Pastry... there is no Armour synthroid. Armour is the brand name for a thyroid extract that is derived from the thyroid glands of pigs. It is generally (along with a few other brands) referred to as Natural Desiccated Thyroid or NDT for short.
Thank you for the explanation
You are very welcome. It can be confusing at first.
I meant talking
Yes, done all that. Just wondering if it would be worth it to switch with Armour synthroid
I just happened upon this thread. Armour is natural dedicated thyroid (NDT)
Synthroid is name brand synthetic T4
Or generic Levothyroxine T4.
I take Levothyroxine made by Mylan.
I have a really good friend that thought NDT was better for her, but she started losing a ton of hair from Armour NDT and switched back to synthroid/Levothyroxine. I hope either way one works well for you! 😊
Thank you
