I've been under Dr Peatfield's care. He himself has underactive thyroid as do his staff.

Brief history quoted from his book Your Thyroid & how to keep it healthy:-

He qualified at Guys hospital in 1960. Worked 2 yrs in the Croydon Hospitals, before entering general practice. Increasing disenchantment with NHS decided him to enter private practice where he at once felt drawn to the diagnosis & treatment of thyroid patients. Much impressed by the work of Dr Broda Barnes in the USA, he visited the Barnes Foundation & returned to the UK determined to improve the lot of patients with thyroid illness.

His emphasis on the use of clinical diagnosis, both of thyroid and Adrenal problems and an holistic approach using non-synthetic treatment, enjoyed a great deal of success but brought him into conflict with establishment medicine. And,

..... he finally decided to retire from active medical practice to study nutrition, write and lecture. He wrote the first edition of this book The Great Thyroid Scandal and How To Survive It in 2002 for the general reader, to give people a deeper understanding of both thyroid & Adrenal illness & enable them to play a knowledgeable role in the management of their treatment. A revised re-print was published in 2003, updating the original. This second fully revised and updated edition reflects his clinical experience as a nutritional therapist.

His book is founded on the work & vision of men like Dr Murray, Dr Eugene Hertoghe, his grandson Dr Jacques Hertoghe who taught Dr Peatfield so much, the pioneer work of Dr Broda Barnes and the extraordinary erudition of Dr John Lowe.

Thanks, Helvella. onto my info list it goes. BTW, I think going in to my endo appt friday with my written list bolstered by info obtained here helped me have a good appt and helped my credibility as an informed patient. We can't learn enough about our medical problems. I believe for many docs we are the educators. The info is out there but to be fair (US) docs are so overworked sometimes and are often bound by their practice rules about how much time they have per patient. Good, caring doctors still find ways to deliver good care. And then some aren't that interested. I guess this applies to all professions. Going to your site now.

Drs Hertoghe are in Brussels, which is why I mentioned Brussels. The doctor is Paris, Dr Dalle, was a student of Dr Thierry Hertoghe, who must be the great grandson of Dr Jaques Hertoghe. :)
