I found it disturbing to read this new article but we've seen quite a number of members given statins for their higher cholesterol levels (which should reduce as levo is increased).

I'm too tired at this moment to voice my antagonism to statins and how they are pushed at people! But it's a 100% antagonism!

Btw, my cholesterol levels actually increased on levo and only reduced when I reduced my levo right down to 25mcg, taking T3 instead. Going to get my test repeated soon to see how they've done on T3 only. Obviously for a lot of people levo does the trick, but not all.

With almost 12 million people in the UK taking a Statin - is it any wonder that Alzheimers and Dementia and other neurological conditions are on the rise. That is almost 37% of the population taking a Statin. Not sure of the figures for Alzheimers/Dementia. The brain NEEDS cholesterol as do so many of the hormones that keep us well and balanced.

It is the biggest scandal in the history of medicine and is all about money - and NOT our health. Taking VitD would do the same thing - by reducing inflammation in the arteries. Cholesterol is produced in the body for a good reason. When there is inflammation in the arteries cholesterol is transported there to act as a sticking plaster and to help heal the area.

it is about time common sense prevailed and people should be voting with their feet. What worries me also - is how many statins are thrown down the loo and ultimately ending up in the water supply and the sea - we will all be statinised I did once read that it was suggested that statins should be in the water supply - OMG - the world has gone mad.

We must all read and read and make up our own minds of course ! I prefer to watch my Homocysteine levels - a better indicator of heart events and strokes I have read - but rarely tested on the NHS - umm I wonder why ?

I believe you are right Marz and we read so often of statins being prescribe to hypo members. As we know doctors prescribe for symptoms but not giving optimal thyroid hormones. A higher cholesterol quite common in hypothyroidism.

Homocysteine levels - would doctors have a clue?

Possibly not ! My Homocysteine was once raised and my cholesterol too on being diagnosed with Hashimotos back in 2005. I lowered the Homocysteine - having read up on it - and the cholesterol followed too. I no longer have cholesterol tested - just the Homocystiene

Thank you - I usually manage to bang on about reducing Homocysteine into single figures when discussing Statins. Patrick Holford wrote a book about it - of course he is ridiculed on the net but ....

I first had mine tested around 13 years ago here in Crete - noone batted an eyelid when I requested the test - obviously quite normal. Try getting it tested on the NHS. Did they do yours shaws ?
