Hi, I am currently getting new glasses, as my double vision has gotten worse within a 12 month period . I have to have a special prescription, is this common? i am beginning to wonder if my medication and health history has anything to do with this. having found this group, i now believe it has. any advice would be appreciated.

Are you diagnosed as hypothyroid or hyperthyroid

Thyroid can affect eyes, so possibly it could be. Suggest you ask optician

Can you give a bit more info on your diagnosis and perhaps latest thyroid blood test results. TSH, FT3 and FT4. Do you have Hashimoto's also called autoimmune thyroid disease diagnosed by high thyroid antibodies.

Low vitamins are common too, have you had vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12 tested.

I presume you double vison has been properly investigated. As thyroid hormone needs to be in every cell in the body a lack of it ortoo much can in theory affect any part of us. It might also be worth considering B12 deficencyand having a look on Dr Chandys B12 support group. I have not come across double vision on here as a symptom before but things come up most weeks outf the ordinary.

If you have any blood results please post and list any other symptoms. If the double vision isan isolated symtom then I would think unlikely thyroid.

I have had double vision for about 11 years, a couple of years after having my thyroid removed. and having Radioactive Iodine treatment. i was under the hospital for a while, but nothing was mentioned regarding my thyroid. however, the last few years me double vision has deteriorated a lot, and I am wondering if being on thyroxine or other medications could have anything to do with this. I have not got my recent results, but should get them soon. I will post them when i do. I am still under the hospital (nuclear medicine dept) and have an annual appointment.

I had prisms in my glasses long before I was ever hypo, so I really don't know.

Are you unwell as well as this. Some reasurche posted here a week or 2 ago suggested that those who had had thier thyroid completely removed do not have good health following and that levo cannot be utilised by the body effectively, once the thyroid is out. Thats my understanding of the very complex science. Yourblood results and symptoms would give us all a better picture.

Yes Sirblue, I read that double vision is a symptom of an underactive thyroid and my double vision started around the same time as my uat symptoms (optician just laughed and said I have double vision too!).
