I was diagnosed as having an underactive thyroid last month and am currently on levo. I have suddenly developed double vision in both eyes. My optician can see nothing wrong and had put a prism in my glasses which really helps. She thinks it is not connected to my thyroid but I wondered if anyone else has had this problem?

Double vision
I had the weird-to-experience monocular diplopia (double vision in one eye). Just briefly.
Looking at the sky, with one eye I'd think I could see twice as many birds as with the other eye. Both eyes open, it failed to resolve properly and caused some visual "confusion".
Resolved itself within hours each time, though I did ask an optician.
PS Everything is connected to the thyroid.
Maybe you should have a new blood test if you've not had one recently.
I cannot see double-vision connected to hypo but blurred vision is a symptom.
Low B12 affects all nerves including the optic nerve .....
Hi I suffer with double vision and like you had a prison fitted, but it comes and goes and I have no idea when it's going to happen and usually it's when I'm driving ! I also get what I call head judders,
This has been quite bad and when it happens I usually pull over have a 20 minute nap in the car and then carry on, I don't sleep that well usually between 2-5 hours per night so I thought it might have something also to do with sleep deprecation. !!
I have been on my mess for years nothing has changed but it feels like everything has changed, I have been diagnosed with adrenal fatigue so assumed it was all linked but so far I'm no further forward !!
I had the same 30 years ago (at least they didn't tell me there was anything wrong with my thyroid). But I also had double vision as a child and had to do exercises for it. Had secondary hypo for about 5 years only. I still get it when tired and not wearing my specs (so no prisms).
I started with double vision in Oct/Nov 2015. Prior to the double vision my eyes had felt strange, like there was someone in my head with a bicycle pump blowing them up and they felt under high pressure, as though they were about to pop out of my head. This happened when I was particularly ill with my thyroid as my previous GP had decided I was cured of hypothyroidism and stopped prescribing levo for 5 years and just watched me go downhill, from running a mountain marathon to barely able to walk. I had just moved to a new GP and was awaiting my appointment for a blood test when the double vision started. A visit to an optician and I was sent back to the doctor with a letter stating double vision is a known symptom of an untreated, under active thyroid and my meds needed to be reinstated. Although I hadn't yet had a recent blood test my GP put me 25mcg immediately. Within two days the double vision reduced from 24 hours a day to just early mornings and late evenings, when I was tired. A few days later when I had the blood test appt and my new GP saw the results I was called into the surgery and my dose doubled to 50mcg. Within a couple of days this resolved the double vision completely, for 6 months when it and all the other symptoms came back. A further blood test confirmed my TSH was rising again so further increases to 75 and now 100mcg fixed me, again. That was 6 months ago and some symptoms are back again, but not the double vision yet though I have had periods where my eyes feel under pressure again. I have an appt with the GP on Wednesday morning!
