Hi all, I’m new here and looking for some help as I’m at my wits end. I was diagnosed with an under active thyroid a number of years ago and currently on 150mg levothyroxine daily.
About 2 years ago, I started to go hoarse, struggle to make conversation without going light headed and generally can’t get high notes out. I sound like I smoke heavily (never smoked). My GP sent me for speech & language which has been no help whatsoever.
Lots of people commenting on my voice and I’m losing confidence rapidly. I have also noticed my skin is very very dry and I don’t have any energy.
Has anyone experienced this?
Thanks in advance.

Welcome to the forum. I used to go very hoarse when I was undermedicated. Have you been diagnosed or had any tests done for a thyroid problem? If you have any results can you post the latest with their ranges-they differ from lab to lab so we need to know yours? We will be able to give more help if you can give us some results.
Thanks silverfox7. I was diagnosed a good few years back with an underactive thyroid. I have booked for more tests next Wednesday so will post the results next week.
I also had/have the same. Referred to Speech Therapy who is now referring me to another hospital. In the meantime I looked on youtube and there are quite a few about voice problems mainly for singers and I think it may well be better than the NHS. The problem I found that I was given exercises but next time you passed onto another but no-one told you if you were actually doing the previous exercise correctly. Before that I had my throat examined and had no problem showing.
Since following one or two youtube my voice has improved in that my voice doesn't disappear so quickly when having a conversation.
Thanks for replying shaws. I don't feel that that S&L has helped one little bit and feel fobbed off by the GP's - who up to now, I have found don't have a lot of experience with thyroid issues. I will definitely have a look at the you tube clips you suggest. I have booked in at the Doctors next week for blood tests but I will also ask to be referred back to the endocrinologist.
