Thyroid antibodies

I have known for years that I had high thyroid antibodies( first told in 1994 after 3 miscarriages) but was only put on levothyroxine 18 months ago after finally having a raised TSH.

I have previously had a multinodular goitre which has now diminished in size.

I had private blood tests a few months ago which show my thyroid antibodies to be in the normal range. Why would this be? Does this mean I don’t have hashimotos?

Thanks, I appreciate any help.

The nature of Hashi's is that antibodies fluctuate. At your recent test it just happened to be done at the time when antibodies were low. However, at some point the antibodies will completely destroy your thyroid and as they are antibodies specific to the thyroid then they've done their job so there would be no further activity. It could be either of these scenarios.

Thanks. I would think it has completely destroyed the thyroid.

My GPs attitude over the years was to suggest having a thyroid function test every year and one day it would be abnormal, which it was 18 months ago.

A Dr 20 years ago suggested having part of it removed but this was never done. As a sonographer I knew it was multinodular and enlarged and every Dr I saw commented on the size of my neck. Although not scanned for 6 years now my neck has gone back to normal size.
