Hello

This might a silly question but here goes, Are Hypothyroid sufferers more susceptible to infections? for the past 5 years I have caught a cold or flu and each time has turned into a chest or throat infection, and it takes me loner to recover then my wife or children, who I catch the cold or flu from.

Thanks in advance

Frank

I don't know if we are more susceptible but I do everything I can to boost my immune system and I don't remember the last time I had a cold, probably getting on for 15-20 years.

I have a lung disease plus colonised pseudomonas in my lungs, so it's important to avoid infection as it would probably go straight to my lungs and I'd get a flare up of the pseudomonas so I take

Plenty of Vit C - 2000-3000mg daily

Allimed garlic liquid daily all year round - 1 teaspoonful daily but increase amount if I have signs of an infection

Supplementing to keep Vit D level optimal at 150nmol/L

Homeopathic Oscillococcinum (from a homeopathic pharmacy), one pillule once a month during the winter months

Oil of Oregano capsules if I have signs of an infection

I live alone but as you have family it's important that at times when they have an infection then you should all use separate towels and wash hands thoroughly and constantly as you can pick up the infection from any surface they have touched.

Hi

Thanks for your reply! My wife and I do keep anti-bacterial dry wash in every room of our house but I'm sure the children (15 and 10 years old) do not use it, my 10 year old son always has his fingers in his mouth. But I will try harder!!!

Thanks again

Sorry to say this but it would better to use soap and hot water than anti-bacterial dry wash. These are just chemicals that harm the body and affect your immune system. Wet wipes are good if you are really stuck out of reach of water but in all other cases, nothing beats the basic old principles of hygiene. And don't get me started on the new violent hot air driers in public loos. A recent study showed they just distribute germs all around the loos for all of us to breathe in.

"distribute germs all around the loos for all of us to breathe in." I never thought of that. We buy anti-bacterial wash because we cant trust the children to wash their hand, Its difficult to get my son to flush the loo. never mind wash his hands, his sister calls him a soap dodger,Its no joke.

Thanks

Frank
