I have no figure- the letter from my consultant simply says - please not she is TRAB and TPO positive.
At my last appointment the endo suggested RAI- but I am not convinced. Is there a good study on the risks (or not) long term carbimazole use? Next appointment in 2 weeks - would like to go prepared to argue my case
I am feeling much better now I'm back on carbimazole after last weeks blip!
Thanks

I do not know about studies but you could check yourself online. I do know that people stay on Carbimazole for years with great success and Dr Toft recently stated that he is now reluctant to recommend RAI or thyroidectomy, because of the poor treatment these patients receive afterwards.
I had thyroidectomy. It was all that was offered at the time and without the internet and this site, I knew nothing. I would love to go back and have a second chance...do not let them push you into a decision. If Carbimazole suits you, stay with it.
Thank you for replying hennerton. I'll have a look online, I was just wondering if there was a study or researcher that was recognised as being particularly reliable.
Hi soozej definitely means you have graves Desease, don't let them push you into having RAI until you've had time to research it and then you can make up your own mind. I have graves and had RAI 8 yrs ago now and wished I had not had it done, I was on and off carbimizole for 12yrs before Rai and was pretty well for most of the time, since having it done I have not been as well, I went hypo very quickly and haven't been able to go back to work as don't have the energy and can't stand any stress what so ever.it is a personal choice and some people are fine on levo thyroxine which is the medication that they give you and some need liothyronine but because of the cost you rarely get that, it's taken me 8 yrs to get a trial of liothyronine and hoping that it will make a difference. Rai is not the easy fix that the endo's say it is, what I got told you just take a pill every day and you will be fine that's not how it is in real life.I think it's easier for them as once stable on levo they hand you back to GP care and it's one more patient off their books.
Thanks for sharing your experience. I'm not keen on. RAI and would like to manage it with carbimazole if possible. I feel okay generally on carbimazole
